Contraband Items Seized

A large amount of contraband was seized during a roadblock conducted by personnel of the Investigation and Traffic Control Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, on 8th of December at Jalan Utama Mentiri.

 

During the operation, an 18-year-old local man was arrested after a vehicle inspection found a number of suspicious-looking packages. The contraband included 504 cans and 156 bottles of alcoholic drinks, 2 units of electronic cigarettes and 51 packs of cigarettes of various brands. The suspect and all the seized items were handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further investigation.

Reopen Starting 12 December 2022

Starting Monday, the 12th of December 2022, the Exhibition gallery at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will be reopened for the public’s visit.

 

The exhibition gallery is divided into nine galleries including, King’s Wise gallery; the hair of Rasulullah Shallahu Alaihi Wassalam gallery; qashr sahabat gallery, the legacy of the prophet’s companions and the signs of the greatness of Allah Subhanahu Wataala galleries.

 

The gallery is open everyday except on Friday from 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon and entrance tickets can be obtained at the ticket counters at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. Motorcycle Tour

With a deep passion in motorcycle and adventure, a local motorcyclist is taking the initiative to travel abroad using motorcycle. He also dreams of travelling all around the world while proudly waving the national flag.

 

Awang Muadz bin Haji Abdul Rashid, who is also President of the Brunei Veteran Motorcycle Club, began planning his journey a few months ago. He began his journey to Indonesia in early December. According to him, the journey is a follow-up from the Patriotic Ride in which he and his friends made their journey from Jakarta to Bali, Indonesia.

 

With his experience and strong determination, the local motorcyclist installed a Brunei Darussalam miniature flag on his motorcycle. Throughout his journey, Awang Muadz will also make several stops and hold meetings with motorcycle enthusiasts in Indonesia.

 

Awang Muadz is now in the island of Bali, Indonesia, over a thousand kilometres from where he started his adventure. With the mission to introduce Brunei Darussalam, Awang Muadz also hopes that his ambition to travel all over the world will come true.

ASEAN-UN Regional Youth Forum

The ASEAN-UN Regional Youth Forum on Preventing Violent Extremism through Sport was held recently in Bangkok, Thailand. The forum was organised by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations with the Education Youth and Sports Division of the ASEAN Secretariat.

 

Among its objectives were to raise awareness by uniting youth and to give suggestions on policies to prevent violent extremism through sports into the National Action Plan from ASEAN Youth perspective. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the forum was Dayang Nur Hafizah binti Haji Abdul Sidek, a Netball Development Coach, and Dayang Farhah Syahirah binti Mohamad Shamrin, National Karate Athlete. The forum is hoped to act as a platform for the younger generation to use social media wisely.

Kampung Ukong Youth Camp Programme

Over 60 participants are taking part in the Kampung Ukong Youth Camp Programme. The 4-day programme is held at Kampung Ukong, Tutong District from yesterday.

 

Awang Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri, Acting Tutong District Officer in his speech stated that the programme is an example of an excellent youth capacity development programme and supports the four core strategies of the national youth policy goals. It is one of the chosen activities designed to give exposure to leadership in line with the theme of the 17th National Youth Day Celebration – Future Ready Youth. The programme is organised for the second time by the Kampung Ukong Consultative Council through its Youth Bureau Section in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Department, Tutong District office, Tutong District Scouts Association as well as Red Crescent Association and Brunei Darussalam Astronomical Society.

‘Wayang Pacak’ Festival

Five documentaries on Brunei Darussalam were highlighted during a ‘Wayang Pacak’ or outdoor movie screening Festival organised by The Brunei Film Blitz. The festival was held at Bangar Town, Temburong District.

 

The festival was attended by Her Excellency Caryn R. McClelland, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Brunei Darussalam, and Doctor Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The festival is part of the Storytelling Documentary Film Initiative to promote the production of non-fiction films in the country. It also aims to provide an opportunity for local filmmakers to share their perspectives with the global community.

Weather Forecast to Be Active Until 13 December 2022

Brunei Darussalam’s weather is forecasted to be active with showers or thunderstorms, heavy at times and is expected to affect several areas until Tuesday, the 13th of December 2022.

 

The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications informed that there is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during heavy rain and also during high tide. Wind speed may increase up to 45 kilometres per hour during or near heavy showers or thunderstorms. The public are advised to take necessary actions to ensure safety.

Presentation of Syar’ie Lawyer Certificates

The Syariah Legal Institution is a vital field of service for solving disputes. Speaking at the Presentation Ceremony of Syar’ie Lawyer Certificates yesterday morning, the Chief Syar’ie Judge explained that fiqih experts have made detailed reviews on maintaining it so that it is not misused as this can bring about abuse, enmity and loss of the community’s confidence towards the judiciary system.

 

In his speech, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar also reminded Syar’ie lawyers as well as Syar’ie prosecutors to instill an attitude of noting and being proactive in obtaining the Chief Syar’ie Judge Practises Order that were issued and enforced.

 

19 Syar’ie Lawyers received their certificates at the ceremony, bringing the overall number of registered Syar’ie lawyers to one hundred 75. Also present was Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Tassim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. The ceremony took place at the Supreme Court and Syariah Courts Building, Bandar Seri Begawan.

National Theatre Festival Brunei

The 2nd National Theatre Festival Brunei supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Baiduri Bank aims to bring together stage performances by local artists and performers in the country. The event organised in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival carries the theme ‘The Bruneian’s Heart’. The event took place last night at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre building, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

 

Present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The one-week event involves theatrical activities including forums, workshops and performances. It is co-organised with a local theatre group 247 Studios, AI-CREATIVV, Medley House Productions, The Creative Core B-N as its creative partner and Think Axis as its strategic partner. The public are welcome to attend the forum and watch the performances at Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre, U-B-D. Launching Of 11th PKBN Intake

The number of trainees participating in the 11th Intake of National Service Programme, PKBN this year is the highest achievement in the history of PKBN. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports stated this during the launching of the 11th PKBN intake. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad said the achievement certainly reflects the effectiveness and positive impact on various levels of society, especially the youth. The ceremony took place at PKBN Training Camp, Kampung Batu Apoi, Temburong District.

 

Yang Berhormat said that, despite facing various current challenges, continuity in the implementation of training is important to ensure the future of the youth in becoming reliable and excellent leaders.

 

This year marks the sixth year of PKBN using its permanent camp in Kampung Batu Apoi, Temburong District. 550 trainees, comprising 406 male and 144 female trainees joined the 11th intake.

Presentation of Retirement Certificates

The Prime Minister’s Office and its Departments yesterday morning held a Presentation of Retirement Certificates to officers and staff for 2021. The event took place at the Banquet Hall, Prime Minister’s Office Building.

 

Dayang Hajah Nor Hashimah binti Haji Mohammed Taib, Permanent Secretary for Security and Law as Chairperson of the event in her speech said after serving an average of 30 years with the Government, the retirees have adapted into the retirement phase and are enjoying their retirement years. 161 officers and staff received their certificates and tokens of appreciation from Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yusof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. Also present were Deputy Ministers at the Prime Minister’s Office.
