China Day Event Launched In Brunei To Promote Cultural Exchanges

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, The China Day cultural event, as part of Brunei December Festival, was launched here, at the International Convention Centre, yesterday.

 

This year’s event was organised by the Brunei-China Belt and Road Association, co-organised by the Chinese Enterprise Association in Brunei, and supported by Brunei’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as, the Chinese Embassy in Brunei.

 

It is the second edition of the China Day cultural event since 2020, highlighting friendship between Brunei and China, and open to the public for three days until tomorrow.

 

“In 2020, the embassy held the first China Day event, in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival, which received an extensive welcome,” Wang Haitao, charge d’affaires of the Chinese embassy, said, at the opening ceremony of the China Day 2022 event.

 

“Coming back after two years and well prepared by the organisers, China Day will be featured with even wealthier and more innovative programmes,” he said in his speech.

 

“We believe that all these (programmes) will add Chinese flavour to the festival, and open a window for friends in Brunei, to know more about China in the new era,” he added.

 

At the opening ceremony, Brunei students and athletes from the Brunei national wushu team performed wushu, which won bursts of praise and applause from the guests and the audience.

 

A series of activities showcasing Chinese cultures such as, wushu, calligraphy, delicacy, and sales of Chinese goods and specialties will be staged during the three-day event.

Family Festival Activity

The Family Festival in conjunction with the National Family Day Celebration 2022 continues today with a traditional games activity. The activity was held at the Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja in the capital.

 

Traditional games such as Congkak, Salok-Salokan, Buah Lapas-Lapas and Pasang, among others, aimed to highlight and give exposure among the younger generation and children in general. Activities are conducted by the Brunei Museums Department, Publication and Learning Division. The Family Festival will end tomorrow with family game activities and is open to the public.

Registration for SPUB Examination Results

The registration to obtain the Brunei Religious Education Certificate, SPUB Examination 1443 Hijrah/2020 results through the Short Message Service, SMS will be open from Monday, 19th December 2022 at 10 in the morning.

 

Examination candidates, parents or guardians are required to register via SMS by typing KHEU space Reg space Examination Centre Number space Candidate Index Number space Smart Identification Card Number and send to 8885555 for DST customers or 38666 for Progresif customers.  Successful registration will be notified via SMS at no cost.  SMS exam results will only be sent to registered students once the results are released.

Preparation for the First School Term Session

In two weeks times, the First Term of School will start.  Parents are now actively preparing for their children. The bookstores and school supplies shops became the focus for buying school necessities.

 

In ensuring that all books and school necessities are sufficient, bookstores have made preparations in advance. Apart from that, some facilities for customers are also provided to make it easier for them to get the goods they need. Pre-orders for book lists are also accepted by bookstores since early this month.

 

Parents and guardians also take the initiative to buy their children’s needs in advance to avoid crowds and ensure that all needs are sufficient.

 

Tailor shops are also become the focal points. Since the end of November, tailor shops have started receiving orders until today.

Usage of Solar Energy

Brunei Shell Petroleum, BSP Sendirian Berhad uses solar energy in the production of mixed energy. The move is an effort towards reducing carbon production.

 

The BSP Solar PV Plant in Jalan Tengah, Seria, successfully met the International Certificate standard to track the production of renewable electricity. Mrs. Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, BSP Managing Director and Shell Chairperson in Brunei Darussalam shared that the reports and power meter readings from the SOLAR plant were submitted to the ‘Green Certificate Company’ from the United Kingdom which verified BSP’s Decarbonisation efforts in accordance with global best practices. The SOLAR plant located at G-Eleven along Jalan Tengah, Seria, is the second SOLAR plant in the country. With almost 7,000 solar panels installed on four hectares of land, the plant uses the latest technology in SOLAR panels.

Certificates Presentation

13 trainees from both academic and hospitality industry completed the Training of Trainers for ASEAN National Trainer in Hotel Division for Front Office. The training ended with a presentation of certificates and awards ceremony.

 

Certificates were presented by Dayang Hajah Tutiaty Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. At the ceremony four trainees received best trainee awards. Such a training programme provides trainers and trainees the opportunity to update their knowledge and acquire industry-current skills.

Completing Youth Development Programme

75 Youth Development Programme Trainees comprising 50 male and 25 female Trainees have completed a 9 month training session. The Pre-Graduation Ceremony for the Programme Trainees was held yesterday morning at the Youth Development Centre, Kampung Tanah Jambu.

 

Present was Awang Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin, Permanent Secretary for Youth at the Ministry of Culture, Youth And Sports. The trainees received several awards, namely the best in Skills Training award in 9 Course areas and the Best Self-Development Programme in 5 categories. Also presented was the Special Award which is the Inspirational Appreciation Award. The ceremony also marks the transition to a 3-month job placement programme in government and private agencies.

 

The recipients said that completing the programme does not mean the end of their studies, but rather the start towards developing themselves for a better life.

His Majesty Condolences Message

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a message of Condolences to Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia following the tragic landslide that hit Batang Kali, Selangor.
