The COVID-19 Vaccination Program for Students aged 12 to 17

The COVID-19 Vaccination Program for students aged 12 to 17 years old is among the initiatives of the Ministry of Health in ensuring Brunei Darussalam achieves the objective of 80 percent of the entire population receiving a complete COVID-19 vaccine injection. By taking into account children and adolescents between the ages of 12 to 17 are still in school, joint cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as relevant agencies are needed to help coordinate the program as a whole of nation approach. Awang Sofian Erwan bin Mohamad, Acting Head of the Private Education Department, Ministry of Education and Awang Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar, Acting Director of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs shared on the COVID-19 Vaccination Program for Students Aged 12 to 17 years old.

 

According to Awang Sofian Erwan Bin Mohamad, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs have obtained preliminary information on the number of students under their control where the total number obtained is 38 thousand 417 students. This also includes a small number of students who are registered with or are studying at agencies or statutory bodies such as the Youth Development Center, Pusat Ehsan, Smarter and those registered with the Job Centre where information is still being updated. Meanwhile for students with special needs, the Ministry of Education has already researched and made preparations.

 

Meanwhile Awang Shamshol Bin Haji Omar said that preparations and coordination are carried out in an integrated manner between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education including the divisions and units under the control of education starting from student data collection as well as feedback from parents.

110 New Cases, 7 New Clusters Detected, 227 Recovered

110 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed yesterday bringing the total number of cases to 13,065 people.

 

There are 28 additional new cases to the seven existing active clusters who are close contacts to the previous positive cases. Meanwhile, 7 new clusters were detected involving 50 cases. All the new clusters are accommodation clusters of which two, namely the WYWY Lambak Staffhouse Cluster and the KSAKB Construction Staffhouse Cluster are housing clusters accommodating the company’s employees. Meanwhile 7 clusters are closed after no cases were detected for 28 days. The closed clusters are Pusat Tulen Lelaki, Al-Islah; 2632; 3715; 5404; 6041; 6597 and 7068, bringing the total number of active clusters to 176. In addition, 2 imported cases are recorded today with both arriving in the country from the United Kingdom via Singapore on board Singapore Airlines SQ146 on the 24th of October and Singapore Airlines SQ148 on the 25th of October 2021.

 

Thirty new cases are still under investigation to determine the source of infection. 227 cases have recovered bringing the total number of those recovered to 11,091 cases with 1 thousand 886 active cases. Among the cases currently treated, seven are in Category 5 and are treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All require the assistance of artificial ventilation with two requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine, ECMO. Meanwhile, 13 in Category 4 requires oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, 2,713 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 499,795.

Teachers Day Webinar

The Ministry of Education through the Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy, the Department of Education Management and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, Universiti Brunei Darussalam this year organised the Teacher’s Day Webinar in conjunction with the 31st Teachers Day Celebration via online.

 

Joining the webinar was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education and Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education. More than six hundred participants comprising teachers from primary, secondary schools, colleges, government and private six form centres, Public Higher Learning Institutions as well as the Brunei Institute of Technical Education joined the webinar. The webinar among others, discussed innovative practices to improved student performances and the quality of education in the country.

PMUBD Innovation Competition

The Universiti Brunei Darussalam Student Association Innovation Competition, PMUBD, is a platform for students not only to seek job opportunities in the future, but also create more employability in the country.

 

Dayang Fatin Aimuni binti Haji Suffian, Vice President, Chief Executive of Entrepreneurship of UBD Students Association and Chairperson of the event said this during the opening of the competition. Organized by the Entrepreneurship Executive, PMUBD is a competition for Students to showcase innovative ideas and existing prototypes. It is an initiative that emphasizes the importance of keeping abreast with innovation and technological advances in various fields of business and industry. The online competition attended by Pengiran Doctor Mohammad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, UBD, was won by Agrobo Technologies.

National Vaccination Programme, 22 Violation Recorded

The Minister of Health also shared that on the 29th of October 2021, 739 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection.

 

Under the National Vaccination Programme, 351,715 individuals have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or 81.8 per cent of the total population. Meanwhile, 252,947 individuals have completed the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or 58.8 per cent of the total population.

 

Whereas among the elderly population aged 60 years and above, 42,154 individuals or 97.4 per cent have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and a total of 38,204 individuals or 88.2 per cent have completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Operasi Pulih currently carried out from 8 in the evening until 4 the next morning, 22 violations of the directive were issued with compound fines nationwide, including 13 violations of the out-of-house restriction directive.
