Boat Capsizing in Central African Republic Claims 58 Lives

BANGUI – A boat accident in the Central African Republic has resulted in the deaths of at least 58 individuals. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the vessel overturned on the Mpoko River near the capital, Bangui.

According to Philippines News Agency, the chief of civil protection, the capsized boat was en route to the town of Mokola for a funeral. "We have so far retrieved the bodies of 58 people," Djimasse stated. He also noted that the boat was overloaded, and he indicated that the death toll might increase as the search continues.

Reports from local media revealed that the boat was carrying over 300 passengers. Following the accident, dozens of volunteers rushed to the scene to aid in the rescue efforts.
