28th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting

Two key documents, namely the ASEAN Agreement on Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Cooperation, ASEAN-SAR; AND the ASEAN-European Union Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement, AE-CATA were during the 28th ASEAN Transport Ministers, ATM Meeting in Bali, Indonesia.

 

The meeting was attended by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. The 28th ATM was officiated by His Excellency Budi Karya Sumadi, the Minister of Transportation of Indonesia. The ASEAN SAR Agreement would develop and strengthen aeronautical and maritime Search and Rescue cooperation among the ASEAN Member States.  Meanwhile, the AE-CATA, as the first bloc-to-bloc air transport agreement in the world, would also help bolster air connectivity between the regions and enhance opportunities between the two sides as air transport move towards recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The Meeting adopted and agreed on documents reflecting recent global trends in sustainable development and digitalisation. The Meeting also agreed to the establishment of the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting, STOM, Task Force on Sustainable Transport, which will look to respond to emerging issues and new initiatives, among others, in the areas of sustainable development, decarbonisation and digitalisation of the transport sector.

 

The 28th ATM was followed by Meetings with ASEAN Dialogue Partners. Also held were the 54th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting, STOM, and Associated Dialogue Partner Meetings.
