APEC Business Advisory Council

The calls on policymakers to leverage trade and economic policies to address the region's sustainability and economic inclusion challenges were discussed by Members of the APEC Business Advisory Council, ABAC in Auckland, New Zealand.

Under the 2023 theme of Equity, Sustainability, Opportunity, the ABAC will commission reports and develop recommendations to APEC leaders that identify ways forward-looking trade and investment policies can be leveraged to tackle climate change, living standards, and digital transformation. ABAC's work plan will build on initiatives launched in 2022, including an agenda to progress toward a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific by focusing on early harvest achievements in the areas of digitalization, inclusion, sustainability, and trade. The New Zealand Prime Minister, His Excellency The Right Honourable Chris Hipkins, opened the ABAC meeting, stressing on the value of close partnerships with business to tackle shared challenges.

Camp Closing Ceremony

The Joint Incentive Training Camp, Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association ended on 18th February afternoon, with the Closing and Certificates Presentation Ceremony. The ceremony took place at the Tutong District Scouts Association headquarter.

Certificates were presented by Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali, Chief Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association. The 3-day camp was joined by 18 participants comprising Junior Scouts and 4 Rover Scout members who are going to South Korea to become the International Service Team. The camp aims to foster the spirit of cooperation, unity and friendship.

Cooking Competition

Various cuisines are up for competition to further enliven the 'Ke Temburong Bisai' Programme National Day Edition in Temburong District.

The cooking competition organised by the Temburong District Pertiwi Association and Women's Bureau of Kampung Seri Tanjung Belayang and Batang Tuau Consultative Council was held at the Bangar Town wharf, 18th February afternoon. 3 categories were contested, namely century egg, glutinous rice flour and tofu.

‘Daurah Tip’ Programme

Also in conjunction with commemorating the Isra' Mi'raj event, Al-Minhaaj Centre organised a 'Daurah Tip Memimpin Sehebat Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam'. The programme was held to shape the personality of Muslim leaders who are authoritative in the style of Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam from the individual, family, organizational and community aspects.

The programme discussed the four parts of the leadership style shown by Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam to Muslims in particular and to all mankind in general starting with leadership for oneself, family, community and organization. The first part touched on how to lead oneself before becoming a leader of others. The second part touched on how to lead the family in ensuring the goal of forming a family of sakinah, mawaddah and rahmah. The event took place at the IGS College, Kampong Kiulap.

National Level Isra’ Mi’raj Celebration

The National Level Isra' Mi'raj Celebration for 1444 Hijrah/2023 carries the theme “Bersabar, Berikhtiar, Bertawakkal Dan Berdoa Menghadapi Ujian: Sembahyang Meraih Redha Allah". The celebration commemorates the great event when Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam received the command on the five daily prayers directly from Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. The direct command indicated the great importance and special status of the daily prayers. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the event that took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, 18th February morning.

Upon arrival His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara;

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs;

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof; Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, and other Executive Committee Members.

Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brother;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

- His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen; and

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.

The reading of Al-Quran was presented by Awang Mohammad Zul-Hafiz bin Awang Tengah, Champion of the National Level Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for Adults 1443 Hijrah/2022.

In his welcoming speech the Minister of Religious Affairs highlighted that prayers lead towards ultimate victory through hard work to achieve success. The mass recital of Salawat Ibrahimiyyah was led by officers and staff from the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Mosque Affairs Department and Syarikat PDS Abattoir Sendirian Berhad.

Prayer as the easiest and quickest way towards achieving Allah's blessings was the highlight of the Special Talk by Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Salehuddin, Mosque Affairs Officer at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah. A special performance "Sembahyang Meraih Redha Allah" by Mosque youths also enlivened the celebration.

Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. The celebration is a tradition that commemorates the Isra' Mi'raj of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam that provides good examples for the Muslim ummah.

Prayer as Catalyst of all Perfection

The Monarch in his titah, also says that patience will not exist, other than among the faithful only, who are continuously endearing themselves to Allah with acts of worship, especially prayer as it is the catalyst of all perfection.

When the act of worship was made into syari'at or Islamic law, then the tradition of worshiping none other than Allah has been declared as obligatory.

Key to Capability in Facing Tests

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in a titah stresses that the key to the country's capability in facing the test of the COVID-19 Pandemic and various variants is none other than the country never having neglected acts of worship to Allah, not only specific acts of worship, but also covers all charitable practises. His Majesty also stresses that the people of the world need to understand the fact that Al-Quran is a Kitab Samawi or Heavenly Book that directly comes from Allah and not written by Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wassalam or any person.

His Majesty emphasised the matter in a titah in conjunction with the National Level Isra' Mi'raj Celebration for 1444 Hijrah, 2023. His Majesty began the titah by expressing gratefulness to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala for being able to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam's Isra' Mi'raj event.

Never Neglect the Acts of Worship to Allah

His Majesty in his titah says that the pledge to never neglect the acts of worship to Allah, is voiced daily in the Iftitah supplication which comes from Surah Al-An'am verse 162 with its interpretation: 'Indeed my prayer and my worship, my life and my death are for the sake of Allah, the Lord of all the worlds'.
