A series of legal talks Domestic Violence and Shari’ah law, urged the victims of domestic violence not to remain silent and should come forward and report the violence to relevant authorities. These are because if they are silent such violence will continue and therefore the number of such cases will become more alarming. The talk was held yesterday at the Lecture Hall of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

According to Mohammad Shahray bin Zulkifli, a sharie lawyer from Yusof Halim & Partners said that domestic violence can occurred physically, mentally, emotionally, sexually and even spiritually. Domestic violence is an act of violence towards the wife or husband that can cause physical, mental and also spiritual injury. Reporting the domestic violence will enable the perpetrator to be punished based on the country’s law either at the Shariah court or civil court. The series of talks which are open to the public is part of an on-going activity of the Community Welfare Council, MKM together with Yusof Halim & Partners.
