Queen’s Baton Relay Walk

The Queen's Baton Relay, a tradition of the Commonwealth Games, has reached Brunei Darussalam as the 30th country, on a tour that covers 140,000 kilometres and travelling through all continents in 269 days. The Commonwealth Games this year will be held in the United Kingdom from the 28th of July until the 8th of August. The British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam stated the matter at the Queen's Baton Relay Walk yesterday morning.

His Excellency John Virgoe said, the Commonwealth Games will coincide with the celebrations for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second's Platinum Jubilee.

Upon arrival from Malaysia, the baton was handed over by His Excellency Dato' Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam who then passed it to Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as representative of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council. The baton's next destination is Papua New Guinea on the 30th of January.
