A Bruneian touch was added to the annual Makan Tahun gathering at Kampong Limpaki in Limbang recently. Among the two-day programme was a performance by a Kedayan cultural group from Brunei.
Several members of the Brunei Pemedayan Association were also there at the invitation of the Persatuan Kedayan Limbang. Makan Tahun is a traditional annual get-together amongst the Kedayans after a good padi harvest.
A traditional feature still maintained at the weekend’s gathering was the preparation of food which was done by, the community themselves rather than by professional catering, further strengthening the community spirit.
It was also an opportunity for the Kedayans to don their traditional Kedayan costume. Makan Tahun gatherings have sadly slowly disappeared from the Bruneian scene.
