The Programme for International Student Assessment, PISA 2018 saw the country’s participation for the very first time in the comparative international large-scale research study. During a Media Conference on Brunei in PISA 2018: Insights into Equity in Education and Student Well-being yesterday AFTERNOON, Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education as member of PISA Governing Board stated that among participating ASEAN countries, Brunei Darussalam is ranked 3rd in all domains of the PISA 2018.
According to the Permanent Secretary, a sample of 600 thousand students representing 32 million 15-year old from 79 countries and economies participated in the study. In Brunei Darussalam, it involved 6 thousand 828 students across 55 secondary schools, which is one of the highest coverage in PISA. In accordance to the criteria of assessment, the medium of instruction in schools determine the language of assessment. Therefore, Brunei Darussalam is the one of the only three ASEAN countries that administered the study in the English language.
