His Majesty leaves Washington D.C.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, left Washington D.C., United States of America, 14th May night, after attending the ASEAN-United States (U.S.) Special Summit. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

 

Prior to departure, Doa Selamat was recited by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

Present at the airport to bid farewell to His Majesty was His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Serbini bin Haji Ali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the United States of America.

 

During the visit to Washington D.C., His Majesty attended a Working Luncheon hosted by Her Excellency Kamala D. Harris, Vice President of the United States of America, in which Leaders discussed matters on maritime cooperation, as well as pandemic and health recovery. His Majesty in a titah says that ASEAN and the U.S. remain committed to peaceful engagements through dialogue and consultations through various ASEAN-led mechanisms to ensure continued regional peace, stability and prosperity.

 

Following this, His Majesty attended the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit, which was held at the Department of State. Plenary Session One was chaired by Her Excellency Vice President of the United States of America and discussed on climate action, clean energy transformation and sustainable infrastructure.

 

During the session, His Majesty welcomed the U.S’ engagement in climate change initiatives in the region. Meanwhile, Plenary Session Two was chaired by His Excellency Joseph R. Biden Jr., President of the United States of America, in which Leaders discussed on regional and global issues, as well as ASEAN-U.S. relations in the future and issues on the Indo-Pacific region.

 

During the session, His Majesty welcomed the U.S’ engagement in climate change initiatives in the region. Meanwhile, Plenary Session Two was chaired by His Excellency Joseph R. Biden Jr., President of the United States of America, in which Leaders discussed on regional and global issues, as well as ASEAN-U.S. relations in the future and issues on the Indo-Pacific region.
