Flood Situation in Belait District

With the current unpredictable weather conditions in Brunei Darussalam, several roads in the rural areas have been flooded since 27th August. In Belait District, the affected areas include Kampung Merangking, Lait Lakang, Jalan Kandul and Sukang. According to this morning’s record, the water level in those areas is currently receding although some areas are still flooded.

According to Awang Ramlee Bin Haji Jamudin, Belait District Officer, the continuous monitoring carried out by the Belait District disaster management committee found that the water level has decreased with the level in Mukim Sukang decreasing to the river bank while in Bukit Sawat, although still inundated but the water level has also decreased. However, the situation is dependent on the weather conditions in the next few days as if there is a possibility of the water levels increasing with continuous rainfall. The government through the Belait District disaster management committee is continuously monitoring the flood conditions and will assist the affected village residents where needed which includes distribution of food rations, providing boats for residents of villages which the access roads to their homes are inundated by floods aside from monitoring their well-being through the respective penghulu mukim and village heads.
