Seven individuals including father-son duo were arrested during a raid for illegal drug trafficking activities at a residence in Kampung Meragang National Housing Scheme. They were aged between 21 to 52 years old.
During the raid, the Narcotics Control Bureau found several plastic packages and straws containing crystalized substances believed to be Methylamphetamine, a Class A controlled drug weighing more than 12 grams with an estimated value of more than BND$2,000.00. Also seized was several utensils used for drug consumption and cash money estimated to more than ONE THOUSAND DOLLAR believed to be proceeds from drug activities.
Investigations into this case are ongoing under various sections of Misuse of Drugs Acts:
Two (2) suspects under Section 3A of MDA, Chapter 27 for the possession for the purpose of trafficking of a controlled drug that carries a minimum penalty of 5 years of imprisonment and 5 strokes and maximum penalty of 20 years of imprisonment and 15 strokes and possession for the purpose of trafficking more than 100 grams of a Class A controlled drug carries the death penalty;
Another two under Section 6(a) of MDA, Chapter 27 for the possession of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of $20,000 or both;
All suspects under Section 6(b) of MDA, Chapter 27 for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of $20,000 or both;
While one under Section 7 of MDA, Chapter 27 for possession of utensils used for drug consumption that carries a penalty of up to 3 years imprisonment or a fine of $10,000 or both.
