Congress Approves Conversion of Two North Cotabato Schools into State University and College

North Cotabato, Philippines – Two educational institutions in North Cotabato are set to be upgraded to state-run tertiary institutions after Congress approved the conversion bills. This development is expected to broaden educational opportunities in the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the proponent of the bills, the Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) in Arakan and the Makilala Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Makilala are the schools designated for conversion. House Bill (HB) No. 9317 proposes the transformation of CFCST into a state university, while HB 9138 advocates for MIST's conversion into a state college.

Caoagdan emphasized that the conversion of these institutions would provide improved educational opportunities and facilities, aiding in the delivery of better and more excellent education. Established in 1967, CFCST is known for providing higher technological, professional, and vocational training, while MIST, founded in 2014, offers courses in business, agriculture, and education. Both schools have a history of producing top-notch students and maintaining high passing rates in various educational fields. The conversion is also expected to benefit students from low-income families, as the schools offer low to zero tuition fees. Caoagdan encouraged students to stay focused and motivated, highlighting the importance of education in achieving a better future.
