Face-To-Face Teaching and Learning Will Resume

The Minister of Education also informed that face-to-face teaching and learning for all Public, Private and International Educational Institutions under the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will resume.

 

The Ministry of Education announced the resumption of face-to-face teaching and learning for all Private and International Educational Institutions under the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, namely childcare centres, special centres, kindergartens, Pre-School to Year 6 (for primary schools with less than 50 pupils); Secondary level, Colleges and Sixth Form Centres that is Year 7 to Year 13, from Monday, 4th April 2022 or Tuesday, 5th April 2022, depending on the date for 1st of Ramadhan. The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs will give special consideration to any educational institution applying to operate using the online learning method or Home Based Learning, HBL. Touching on vaccination programme and vaccination impact on children aged between 5 to 11, the Ministry of Education will inform the date for their face-to-face teaching and learning in the near future.

4th School Leaders Convention

The 4th School Leaders Convention 2022 aimed to enhance the instructional and professional leadership of school leaders. Jointly organized by the Department of Educators Management and the Schools Department, Ministry of Education, the convention's closing ceremony was held yesterday morning at the Chancellor's Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education. With the theme 'Quality Leaders, Quality Education', the convention focused on the sub-theme 'Digital Citizenship'. The ceremony coincided with the presentation of the appointment of new school leaders and school incentives for government schools that achieve excellence in the 2021 public examinations. Also present was Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education.

Understanding Digital Citizenship

The Digital Citizenship Workshop held during the 4th School Leaders Convention provided an understanding of Digital Citizenship as well as support towards digital well-being among the school community. Through in-depth discussions, and research of various studies for relevant cases, school leaders were able to identify the Digital Citizenship component in learning.

The 4th School Leaders Convention

The Ministry of Education has been undertaking the Blended Learning Models for 67 schools since 2021. According to the Minister of Education, its implementation will be extended to other schools. Speaking during the 4th School Leaders Convention 2022, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman hoped that schools nationwide will carry out blended learning as a new normal in teaching and learning as well as bridging the learning gap. With the theme Quality Leaders, Quality Education, the 3-Day Convention until the 26th of March 2022 was held via physical as well as online. It was jointly organised by the Department of Educators Management and the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.

More than 635 participants and guests participated comprising leaders of Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges and Government 6 Form Centers and private of the Ministry of Education as well as schools from the Department of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs. The event continued with the launch of the Learning Support Guidebook. The convention aims to enhance the instructional and professional leadership of school leaders. Also present was Datin Seri Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education. The convention will continue online on Thursday the 24th of March 2022 with a presentation and workshop on Digital Citizenship.

Presentation of Mushaf Endowment

Following Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA's Mushaf Endowment programme which was opened since the 16th of February, the mushaf has been distributed to mosques; suraus; religious halls; religious schools; Arabic schools; Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Qur'an Institute; primary and secondary schools, Al-Falah School, Nadi Quranic Learning Center as well as new converts. The mushaf endowment presentation ceremony took place yesterday morning at the UNISSA Auditorium.

The handing over of the Mushaf Endowment was officiated by Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA. The Mushaf is handwritten by a local resident and is used at the head of procession of every UNISSA Hafl Al-Takharruj Ceremony. In the first phase, UNISSA has allocated 20,000 copies of the Mushaf for the endowment project. It aims to provide opportunity for those who wish to contribute the mushaf to places in and outside the country, as well as making UNISSA the platform to manage the mushaf endowment.

Launching Of ‘One School, One Farm’

The Asnaf Zakat Empowerment Programme, PROPAZ by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB is ready to consider capital assistance for the ‘One School, One Farm’ project for tithe recipients who wish to increase their standard of living. The Minister of Religious Affairs shared the matter during the launching ‘One School, One Farm’ Project yesterday afternoon. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman explained that the project is a good example and suitable to be conducted by students from tithe-receiving families.

 

Yang Berhormat hoped participants of EDPMMO who runs the project with stakeholders can work together with schools to continue to have more projects.

 

The ‘One School, One Farm’ project was organised by the participants of the 32nd Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers, EDPMMO in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Institute of Brunei Technical Education, and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam. The objective of the project is to introduce and educate students on sustainable agriculture, in line with the global call to implement the Sustainable Development Goal, particularly from the aspect of food security.

Al-Quran Syllabus Briefing

The Curriculum Development Department, Ministry of Education and the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs as the Curriculum Syllabus Division Working Committee, Teaching and Learning resource for Al-Quran Studies Programme at Government and Private Secondary Schools and Colleges, yesterday held a Permanent Curriculum Al-Quran Syllabus Briefing 2022 for Years 9 and 10, virtually.

The briefing aimed to disseminate information to teachers on the implementation of the Al-Quran Permanent Curriculum for Year 9 updated in 2022 and Year 10 as well as the use of Al-Quran teaching and learning resource materials at government and private secondary schools and colleges. The permanent syllabus for the subject of Al-Quran continues to be implemented for Year 10 students this year and will be extended to Year 11 in 2023.

Flash Floods Involving Brunei Students

 

Following the flash floods in Queensland, Australia, the Ministry of Education in its press release informed that all Brunei Darussalam students in the area were reported safe.

 

As reported by the Education Attaché at the Brunei Darussalam High Commission in Canberra, Australia, currently four students were indirectly affected as the surrounding areas of their residences were inundated. However, the students’ residences were not affected as they are located at a higher ground. E-Book Publication

 

The First Meeting of the 18th Legislative Council session entered the fifth day yesterday. The morning session began with deliberation on several issues related to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs highlighted the publication of e-book.

 

For public knowledge, the Department of Islamic Studies is very active in the online or digital activities, inline with the country’s direction towards utilising the digital platform.  The Department of Islamic Studies has undertaken many efforts to digitise its services, including text books.  However, the text books are also published in the normal way while at the same time some are published digitally online.

Intensive Oath Training

The National Day oath is a driver for the younger generation to continue to enhance their identity and loyalty under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The reading of the oath is one of the highlights at every National Day Anniversary Celebration.

Intensive oath training has been held since last January. Awang Muhammad Abdul Wafi bin Haji Sofian is the youngest main oath reader since the National Day Anniversary celebration was held.

Dedication to Obtain Success

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah has consented to the establishment of another new faculty at the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB, which is the Faculty of Social Sciences Education, that will function in conducting research, expanding the syllabus and pedagogy related to society.

 

In the titah at the 11th KUPU SB Convocation Ceremony, His Majesty notes that from the international aspect, KUPU SB is becoming more prominent among universities as well as individuals interested in the field of education. His Majesty, the Chancellor of KUPU SB also stresses that dedication is among the main characteristics to obtain success and efficacy in education.

11th KUPU SB Convocation Ceremony

224 graduates received their degrees and diplomas at the 11th Convocation Ceremony of the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Chancellor of KUPU SB, conferred the degrees and diplomas to the graduates. The ceremony was held at the International Convention Centre, in Berakas.

 

The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs as the Chair of the KUPU SB Council; and Doctor Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Ra’es of KUPU SB.

 

The reading of Al-Quran, Surah Aali Imraan and Surah Al’Alaq were presented by the graduates. The interpretation was read by Awang Abdul Hadi Nasrullah bin Ashraf, a student of the Bachelor of Religious Education Programme.

 

The Ra’es of KUPU SB in his welcoming address among others presented on several new programmes offered by KUPU SB last year in an effort towards achieving KUPU SB’s objective. As of last year KUPU SB has offered several new programmes including Diploma in Fiqh al-Usrah studies, Diploma in Jawi studies and Islamic calligraphy as well as Minor in Muslim family Education. Also offered is a Part -time Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Education Programme.

 

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam delivered the titah of conferment of degrees and diplomas to the graduates.

 

Of the 224 graduates who received Degrees and Diplomas, 5 graduates received Doctor Of Philosophy in Religious Education, 7 graduates received a Master’s Degree in Religious Education; 34 graduates received a Postgraduate Diploma; 91 graduates received Bachelor of Religious Education; 80 graduates received Higher National Diploma; 6 graduates received Diploma and one graduate received a Special Certificate in Special Teaching.

 

In the convocation this year, KUPU SB has succeeded in producing its first graduates in the Master of Religious Education in Arabic Language Programme and several graduates of the first batch of the Bachelor of Religious Education in Arabic Language Programme. KUPU SB continue to collaborate with relevant institutions to meet the skills needs of the industry.

 

Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.

 

As a higher learning’s religious institution in Brunei Darussalam, KUPU SB responsible for producing pious, knowledgeable, highly skilled and committed educators and leaders.
