The Language and Literature Bureau is urged to continue guiding young writers so that they can be involved in various literature activities and realise their role as the Brunei's continuing generation and future literary legacy. The call was voiced by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports while officiating the 7th Brunei Literature Writers Meeting. The function took place yesterday afternoon at the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas.

Yang Berhormat said that literature must be made as one of the priority fields in national development efforts, including promoting it at the international level. Aside from that the global society also needs to be invited to see the literary works of Bruneians so that globalisation which is currently shaping new patterns in today's world also sees the value that is the core of the race's and Brunei Darussalam's mind-set.

Yang Berhormat also opined that it is now time for the Language and Literature Bureau and related agencies to actively translate Brunei literary works into global languages to be disseminated to every corner of the world. Yang Berhormat added that with the translations of the Brunei literature, it can then be showcased and discussed at Book Fairs locally and overseas. This effort is certainly not easy as it requires expertise in a systematic way and in phases as it will assist the local literature development to achieve world class literature status.

Three new books published by the Language and Literature Bureau were launched entitled 'Antologi Puisi Semarak Sastera Sempena Pertemuan Sasterawan Brunei ke-7, 2019'; Antologi Puisi Tarian Naga di Puncak Menara and Sastera dan Ketahanan Nasional: Angkatan Sasterawan dan Sasterawani (Asterawani).

At the function, Yang Berhormat also presented the SEA Write Award Plaque to Awang Haji Jamaluddin bin Aspar, the 2016 Award recipient. The Brunei Literature Writers Meeting aimed to gather writers, literary and cultural figures, academics and the Brunei literature group with the objective of determining the achievement direction, Brunei Malay literature and its dissemination holistically aside from and strengthening Brunei Malay Literature. Among those present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abd Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abd Rahim, member of the Legislative Council.
