His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al- Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam yesterday afternoon graced the Middle Years Celebration of Achievement Ceremony for Jerudong International School, JIS, students. Among the awards recipient at the ceremony was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel. The ceremony was held at the Auditorium of the JIS Arts Centre in Jerudong.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were greeted by His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel. Also welcoming Their Majesties were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy who is also the Chairman of JIS; Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education; Doctor Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary for Higher Education at the Ministry of Education; Mr Barnaby Sandow and the Principal of JIS, as well as JIS Board of Director Members.
The annual Middle Years which incorporates Years 7, 8 and 9 Celebration of Achievement celebrates all the achievements of students throughout the academic year.
In his welcoming address, the Principal of JIS stated that in January this year, following the British Schools Inspection, JIS became the first international school in the world to achieve the highest possible rating in all of the new inspection categories. Mr. Barnaby added that the students whose achievements JIS celebrating today are part of this outstanding award.
The Special awards which was presented by the Principal of JIS include the Academic Excellence, Polio Points Awards, Sporting Achievements, Students Council Recognition Award, Council of British International Schools - COBIS, Student Achievement Award and Middle Years Model United Nations Award.
21 Year 7 students received Polio Points Awards at the ceremony, including His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel. One of JIS missions is to make a critical difference in the lives of others. Polio Points are among JIS initiatives to help polio patients around the world.
The students work together to achieve awards in line with the aims of JIS. The evident benefit of doing something worthwhile becomes an incentive that inspires further positive actions.
Students at JIS have the opportunity to challenge their leadership skills while taking up roles and responsibilities by joining the Student Council. They represent the student body and act as a voice to all of their peers reflecting excellent leadership.
