The ASEAN Defence Ministers endorsed five concept papers and signed the Joint Declaration at the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting, ADMM and 5th ADMM-Plus which took place at the Shangri-La Hotel, Republic of Singapore.
Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Majore General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Second Minister of Defence. At the meeting, Yang Berhormat also held bilateral meetings with several ASEAN and Plus counterparts.
Brunei Darussalam’s continued participation in the ADMM and ADMM-Plus demonstrates the importance of defence diplomacy to Brunei Darussalam, as well as its commitment to regional stability and security through multilateral engagements within ASEAN. During the 5th ADMM-Plus, ASEAN and Plus Countries’ Defence Ministers adopted the Joint Statement on Preventing and Countering the Threat of Terrorism, showcasing ADMM-Plus’ commitment to step up practical cooperation and undertake effective measures to counter terrorism and the Joint Statement on Practical Confidence-Building Measures. The ADMM-Plus meeting will be held next year in Thailand.
