Yesterday morning, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam together with Her Excellency Halimah Yacob, the President of the Republic of Singapore and spouse, Mr. Mohamed bin Abdullah Alhabshee, took a Morning Walk at the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, in the capital.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Second Minister of Finance; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; And Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.
His Majesty welcomed the arrival of Her Excellency Halimah Yacob, the President of the Republic of Singapore and spouse, Mr. Mohamed bin Abdullah Alhabshee as well as delegation.
His Majesty and Her Excellency started the morning recreation with a warm up session. His Majesty and Her Excellency then signed a Commemorative Plaque in conjunction with the Morning Walk Recreation Activity at the Centre Circle.
Spanning 9 hectares, Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas has changed the landscape of Bandar Seri Begawan to a more modern, dynamic and attractive city. It is also one of the significant landmarks in the Capital which becomes the attraction for visitors including tourists from abroad.
His Majesty and Her Excellency then commemorated the activity with the planting of a Kesinai tree, or its scientific name 'Streblus Asper'.
Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas has been made more beautiful with the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge which connects the Taman with Batu Satu. The meeting provided a platform to exchange views on a relation which has matured and strengthened since 1984. Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore enjoy longstanding bilateral relations including in areas of investment and trade, health, education, defence and tourism.
The morning walk proceeded to the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien. At the taman, His Majesty and Her Excellency watched a martial arts demonstration held in front of the Grandstand. The martial arts demonstration consisted of silat, karatedo, kempo, teakwondo and Wushu. The demonstration was participated by more than 140 people, portraying the unity and solidarity of the various communities in Brunei Darussalam.
The One Village One Product Exhibition also gained the attention of His Majesty and Her Excellency. The One Village One Product Programme provides an opportunity for Mukim and Village communities to be more creative, innovative, independent, disciplined, resilient and competitive, as well as possessing a strong desire to progress and attain harmony, and improve the village communities' ability towards achieving self-sufficiency.
Members of the public present to enliven the BandarKu Ceria Programme also took the opportunity to greet and interact with His Majesty and Her Excellency. Since its introduction on the 2nd of October 2016, the BandarKu Ceria Programme continues to receive strong support from varies parties, especially from vendors and members of the public wishing to spend their time on the weekend carrying out recreational activities with the family, while enjoying the morning atmosphere.
After the Morning Walk, His Majesty and Her Excellency then proceeded to Horizons Seafood restaurant in the Capital for breakfast. The close traditional ties between the two countries has continued to be preserved and strengthened. The relation based on mutual respect and trust has enabled both countries to expand and build on the long-standing fields of cooperation.
