The role of the Brunei Darussalam National Road Safety Council is to educate and inform the public about the Road Traffic Act and Regulations, including children. Apart from that it is also a continuation of initiatives and measures towards further enhancement with the cooperation of all parties. The council previously known as the Road Safety Board, was formed on 12th November 1977.

The National road Safety Council or MKKJR involves several government agencies such as the Royal Brunei Police Force, Land Transport Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB, Public Works Department, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and the Transport Research Centre. A number of initiatives have been implemented such as installing safety signboards at several accident prone roads.
