10th ‘Canang Citra Budaya’

​The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will organise the 10th ‘Canang Citra Budaya’ that will be managed by the Culture and Arts Division in collaboration with Radio Television Brunei. ‘Canang Citra Budaya’ is a competition to elevate Malay Brunei culture.

 

The main focus of the competition is to enliven the country’s art and heritage by highlighting the Malay language in poetry. The competition is open to the Brunei Darussalam citizens and permanent residents, and 2 categories will be competed. Category 1 is for participants aged 16 and above on the 1st of January 2023 and not over 35 years old by 1st of January 2024. Meanwhile, Category 2 is open to participants aged 36 and above.

Sungai Teraban Fair

​The Kampung Sungai Teraban Consultative Council in Belait District organised the ‘Pesta Sungai Teraban’ or Sungai Teraban Fair. The event held on 12th March morning, also coincided with the 39th National Day celebration.

 

Among the activities held include a cleaning campaign and a kite competition. In attendance was Awang Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad, Acting Belait District Officer. Managed by the village’s Economic Bureau, the fair provided an opportunity for small business to earn additional income.

Youth Tilawah Al-Quran Competition

​Md Rizmee Saufi Shahadat bin Abd Muizz Zulazmi from Tanah Jambu Mosque and Nurul Sakinah binti Siman from Ash Shaliheen Mosque emerged as champions of the Tilawah Al-Quran Competition for Mosque Youths Nationwide. Held for the very first time by the Ash-Shaliheen Mosque Takmir Committee with the Mosque Affairs Department, the competition was held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Ash-Shaliheen Mosque. The result announcement took place on 12th March afternoon, at the mosque.

 

Prizes were presented by Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. The event aimed to produce future Qari and Qariah, apart from improving the participant’s Al-Quran reading.

‘Peduli Ummah’ Forum

​The youth must rise and always contribute towards the society’s well-being in together helping those in need, especially those living outside the country. This was underlined in the ‘Peduli Ummah: Solidariti Bencana Alam Turkiye dan Syria’ forum organised by Syababul Iman Group, Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque Takmir Committee in collaboration with the Wecare Association, 12th March afternoon.

 

Among those present was Awang Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The forum featured 3 panellists from the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA, Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB, and the Islamic Da’wah Centre. The forum’s goal was to show care and attentiveness towards Muslims and raise awareness on incidents that befell upon other Muslims overseas.

Beach Cleanup Activity

​The Japanese Association in collaboration with Green Brunei held a beach cleanup activity, 11th March. Held at Serasa Beach, the activity aimed to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the environment.

 

Joining the activity was His Excellency Maeda Toru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam who is also the Honorary President of the Japanese Association. Aside from promoting a sense of responsibility in keeping the beaches clean and protect the environment, the activity also aimed to educate the youth and the public on the significance of proper waste management. During the clean-up, a total of 57 plastic bags weighing 477.7 kilogrammes were successfully collected.

Briefing on Abandoned Vehicle Issue

​The public is reminded not to abandon their vehicles in order to maintain cleanliness of the environment, and not to obstruct the road for public use. Actions will be taken and a $500 compound will be issued in accordance to the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30. The reminder was made during a briefing session on the issue of abandoned vehicles, organised by the Kampung Menunggol Consultative Council in collaboration with government agencies including the Brunei Muara District Office, Land Transport Department, LTD and the Royal Brunei Police Force.

 

The briefing was delivered by Awang Hasnul Kamal Asari bin Haji Azahari, Senior Licensing Officer at LTD who shared information on services under the purview of LTD. The session was one of the projects by MUMTAZ Group, which comprised of participants of the Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers of the 33rd Cohort.

 

Also held was a Data Collection Activity for Abandoned Vehicles, organised by the Nakhoda Abdul Rashid Primary School. The activity’s goal was to empower students by enriching their knowledge, skills and competency for the 21st century, inline with the National Education System for the 21st Century, or SPN21. Apart from that, the activity also supported the Education 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as giving support to Science, Technology, Environment and Mathematics, STEM.

Solidarity and Sportsmanship

​The 19th Asian Games Fun Run provided the public the opportunity including the differently-abled to carry out healthy activities together and be active for solidarity and sportsmanship. During interview, participants said the event also gave them the chance to interact and exchange views with athletes.

 

The run also acted as a training session for the country’s paralympic athletes, in which their participation boosted enthusiasm among other athletes and the public, as well as raising awareness on the importance of keeping active. The run also showcased sportsmanship among children.

19th Asian Games Fun Run

​His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council launched the 19th Asian Games Fun Run at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital. Organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council with the support of the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Olympic Council of Asia, OCA, the event aimed to promote the Asian Games that will take place in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China from the 23rd of September until the 8th of October this year.

 

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

 

His Royal Highness flagged-off the run, which was joined by 900 participants. 5 categories were competed including the Differently-Abled Category.

 

His Royal Highness also took part in a 2-kilometre walk which began at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien and ended at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas.

 

His Royal Highness then presented prizes to the winners of each category.
