‘Road Safety is Our Shared Responsibility’

Islamic teachings call for its ummah to avoid all forms of destruction, loss of life and property. Among the matters that can bring such loss is road accident. This was among the content of yesterday’s Friday Sermon titled ‘Road Safety is Our Shared Responsibility’. Road accident is an unexpected mishap. However, accidents often happen due to the road user’s carelessness and violating road regulations. Hence, the road laws and regulations that are enforced in the country are solely to ensure the safety of road users and the general public.

In terms of Syara’, it is an obligation to adhere to road laws and regulations. Aside that, driving method and attitude are part of the holistic Islamic teachings as they are tied to the society’s safety and well-being. Driving requires full focus and concentration, and drivers must always practise patience, apart from being physically, mentally and emotionally prepared before driving. Another Islamic teaching that must be practised before travelling is supplicating and reciting zikir as part of the efforts to ensure safety and smooth travel.
