Brunei Darussalam and India have traditionally enjoyed a warm and friendly relationship since the inception of their diplomatic relations in 1984. Over the years, the relationship has evolved into a multifaceted engagement, characterised by goodwill, mutual respect and understanding and growing cooperation at both regional and multilateral fora. Charge d’Affaires of the High Commission of India in the country stated this at the reception ceremony in celebration of India’s 73rd Republic Day. It took place at a hotel in Gadong.
Representing His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s government at the ceremony was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy for Fiscal. Mr Alok Verma in his speech among other things congratulate the Government of Brunei Darussalam on successfully conducting the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2021. Brunei Darussalam has played an important role in strengthening ASEAN-India relationship.
