Failing To Submit Halal Certificate Application

 

An owner of a company was produced before the Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan for failing to submit a Halal certificate application.

 

An operation conducted in June by enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division found that Sofian Mohammad Amin @ Sylvester Chieng Seng Hong, owner of Otto Company has yet to submit a Halal certificate application. Prior to this, the company has received a Notice and Warning Letter. The defendant was sentenced to a $2,000 fine or 2 months imprisonment in default.

 

In the meantime, the Ministry of Religious Affairs reminded all foods and restaurants owners in the country who have yet to submit the halal certificate application to do so immediately, to the Islamic Religious Council through the Syariah Affairs Department within 6 months of operating. Failing to apply for a Halal Certificate, legal action will be taken with a fine of up to $8,000 or imprisonment of up to 2 years or both. Any complaint or information sharing on violations of halal certification law and regulations in the country can be directed to the Syariah Affairs Department through the Halal Food Control Division by contacting the hotline 7166222 or any Halal Food Control Division Office at each district.
