European Union-Brunei Policy Outreach and Exchange Seminar

One of the objectives of the National Plan of Action on Women is empowering women who can play an active role in preserving, safeguarding and elevating the rights of women, at the same time becoming the driving force for transformation in the country's development. The matter was stressed upon during the European Union-Brunei Policy Outreach and Exchange Seminar in conjunction with International Women's Day. It was held yesterday morning at a hotel in the capital.

Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary for Community at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports stated that the Plan of Action also aims to ensure equitable development for women in order to enable their active participation towards accomplishing Wawasan Brunei 2035.

Earlier His Excellency Vincent Piket, EU Ambassador to Indonesia and Ambassador-Designate to Brunei Darussalam in his keynote speech titled 'Enhancing Gender Equality in the Brunei-EU Partnership' among others said the seminar is the first bilateral policy seminar between both parties and hoped to work together in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment between the EU and Brunei Darussalam. The seminar aimed to produce ideas for cooperation in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.
