Affordable Rice Offered at ‘Kadiwa ng Pangulo’ Locations Across Metro Manila

Metro Manila – Residents of Metro Manila have the opportunity this month to purchase rice at a reduced price of PHP39 per kilo at various 'Kadiwa ng Pangulo' (KNP) stores in select cities within the region. The initiative, announced by Malacañang on Tuesday, is part of a broader effort to make essential commodities more accessible.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Cheloy Garafil highlighted that the KNP not only offers rice but also a range of fresh and quality fruits and vegetables. The Department of Agriculture has encouraged the public to take advantage of the goods available at KNP locations throughout the National Capital Region.

KNP stalls are operational at multiple locations including the Employees Park at Taguig City Hall; People's Park along McArthur Highway in Malinta, Valenzuela City; and the inner court of Manila City Hall, with operations continuing until April 17. Additional locations include Romvi Subdivision covered court in Moonwalk Village, Parañaque City on April 19, and at the Camella Homeowners Association in Merville Village, Parañaque on April 20.

Sales at these stalls have been robust. As of April 15, the Kadiwa organizers reported total sales of PHP2.9 million across various locations in Metro Manila. Rice has proven to be the most popular item, with significant sales recorded in several neighborhoods: PHP519,675 in Barangay Central in Quezon City, PHP1.5 million in Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City, and smaller yet substantial amounts in other parts of the metro.

The 'Kadiwa ng Pangulo' program, spearheaded by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aims to support local farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises by offering rent-free selling spaces to enhance the public's access to affordable, fresh produce. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving several government agencies, including the Departments of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, Social Welfare and Development, Labor and Employment, and the Interior and Local Government. The Presidential Management Service and the Presidential Communications Office play a crucial role in overseeing the program's implementation.
