27th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting

The digitalisation initiative in the transport sector in Brunei Darussalam, aimed at facilitating and safeguarding the interests and well-being of the business sector, especially new Micro Small Medium Enterprises or MSMEs that have entered the market following the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications at the 27th ASEAN Transport Ministers Meeting, ATM and Associated Dialogue Partner Meetings touched on the importance of road safety in realising a more resilient cargo transportation.

 

In line with the Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Declaration 2020, Brunei Darussalam launched the Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Strategic Plan 2025 which contains a comprehensive list of strategies and initiatives. The 2-day virtual video conference was officiated by His Excellency Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

 

The 27th ATM also discussed policies on Accelerating Digital Transformation for More Resilient Transportation and Logistics in the ASEAN Region. At the meeting, ASEAN Transport Ministers agreed to sign the Protocol to Implement the Twelfth Package of Commitments on Air Transport Services under the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services, AFAS through ad-referendum.

 

The meeting was joined by His Excellency Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary General of ASEAN of the ASEAN Secretariat. The 27th ATM Meeting was followed by Meetings with Dialogue Partners namely People’s Republic of China, Japan and Republic of Korea to discuss initiatives for the development of transport cooperation between ASEAN and Dialogue Partners. This includes endorsement of their respective frameworks, including adopting respective transport cooperation frameworks.

 

The 27th ATM Meeting was preceded by the 52nd ASEAN Senior Transport Officers Meeting and Dialogue Partners Meetings held from the 2nd to 3rd November 2021. Brunei Darussalam delegation to the 52nd STOM was led by Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
