Giant-Sized National Flag Hoisting Ceremony

In about a week, Brunei Darussalam will celebrate its 39th National Day. The celebration's Executive Committee, yesterday morning held a Giant-Sized National Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the open area of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital. With the hoisting of the giant-sized national flag, citizens and residents of the country are urged to hoist the national flag to together enliven the 39th National Day Celebration starting yesterday until the 25th of February.

Present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as Chairman of the celebration's Executive Committee.

The flag-hoisting ceremony was officiated by personnel from the Royal Brunei Navy accompanied by the national anthem.

The ceremony continued with the presentation of national flags and posters in conjunction with the 39th National Day Celebration to District Officers.

Look with Awareness

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday morning made an Unscheduled Visit to Unified National Networks, UNN sendirian berhad at Sumbiling Telephone-House, Jalan Istana Darussalam.

During the visit, His Majesty in a titah expresses his attention and care in several matters related to the benefits or advantages from the unification of three local telecommunications companies, Telekom Brunei Sendirian Berhad, TelBru, Data Stream Technology Communication Sendirian Berhad, DST and Progresif Cellullar Sendirian Berhad, PCSB. Among them were concerns of loss of employment for the locals and positions in UNN's executive management level being monopolised by foreigners. His Majesty reminds that all incidents involving wrongdoings, should not be ignored but looked at with awareness. His Majesty started off the titah by underscoring that UNN is an organisation which 100 percent owned by His Majesty's Government under Darussalam Asset Sendirian Berhad, established on 4th December 2018, with the aim of providing digital telecommunications services in the country.

Unscheduled Visit

During the Unscheduled Visit to the Unified National Networks, UNN, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam took a closer look at several of the company's divisions. Among those visited by His Majesty was the Transformation and Project Management Section.

As the integrated national telecommunication network operator of Brunei Darussalam, UNN provides a full scope of fixed and mobile services.

The UNN Data Centre was also the focus of His Majesty's visit.

Among the recent initiatives of the UNN are raising the fixed broadband baseline speed to 50 Mbps in line with the goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035 and Digital Economy 2025.
