Blood Donation Campaigns

 

The Blood Donation Centre, Department of Laboratory Services, Ministry of Health will be organising Blood Donation Campaigns.

 

The campaign will be held on Tuesday, 3rd January 2023, from 10 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon at First Floor, Mabohai Shopping Complex. A similar campaign will be organised on Saturday, 7th January 2023 at 10 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. The campaign will takes place at Unicorp Brunei Sendirian Berhad Buillding, Beribi Industrial Park.

Donating Blood can reduce the risk of Heart Disease

 

Donating blood is a noble practise in Islam, as it can help those in need such as patients with chronic disease. Apart from specific acts of worship such as prayer and fasting, donating blood is also a religious deed.

 

According to the Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, all blood types are still needed to increase the blood stock at all hospitals. According to a study and facts, donating blood can reduce the risk of heart disease. This was based on research which found that iron content in the blood will be at an optimal level.

 

According to a blood donor, donating blood is an act of worship aside from saving lives. Another donor who donated blood for the 43rd time said that there are health benefits by donating blood.

 

By donating blood, not only that we can save lives, it also has health benefits to the donor. Hence, the public are highly encouraged to donate blood and help to increase the blood stock to help those in need.

Art for All Exhibition

 

Over 16 thousand visitors were recorded at the ‘Seni untuk Semua’ or Art for All exhibition. Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Department of Community Development, JAPEM, the exhibition was held in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

 

The exhibition was a platform to showcase the artworks produced by the differently abled in collaboration with the creative works from Pusat Bahagia and associations such as Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, SMARTER Brunei and La Vida. The exhibition also aimed to raise the people’s awareness on the differently abled, and expressed appreciation for their works and skills. At the exhibition, the public were in awe with the works showcased, including the subtlety of the art of making a mosque from rolled paper. The exhibition is extended until the 22nd of January 2023.

19th Cultural Journey Programme

The 19th Cultural Journey Programme aimed to empower and elevate art and culture within the officers and staff of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Organised by the Culture and Arts Division, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the programme was part of the initiative to raise the public’s awareness, understanding and internalisation on the importance of history and cultural heritage.

 

Various activities were lined up for the programme, focusing on perpetuating the country’s language, culture and heritage. Among those present were Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary for Sports at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary for Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Doctor Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, Acting Permanent Secretary for Community at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

 

A demonstration on how to fold Sinjang and Dastar, traditional dance as well as music were highlighted by the Culture and Arts Division. Meanwhile, the Museums Department held the traditional game activity, whereas the Language and Literature Bureau also organised a number of activities such as exhibition, book sales and interactive quizzes.

Consumer Price Index for October 2022

The Consumer Price Index, CPI for October 2022 decreased by 0.6 per cent compared to September 2022. This was driven by the drop in Non-Food Index by point 8 per cent. However, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Index showed an increase of 0.1 per cent.

 

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, Ministry of Finance and Economy in a press release stated that the decrease in Non-Food Index was driven by Clothing and Footwear; Transport; and Communication. The fall in the prices of Clothing and Footwear was mainly due to the price of clothing, which was in line with the sales promotion hosted by several premises in the country. In addition, the drop in Transport was contributed by the decrease in air fares, while the decrease in Communication prices was due to lower prices in telephone and telefax services.

 

However, the price of food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages recorded an increase following the rise of food prices such as Rice and Cereals; Fruits; and Fish and Seafood. As compared to October 2021, the CPI had increased by 3.5 per cent, inline with rising Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages prices and Non-Food prices by 6.1 per cent and 2.9 per cent respectively.

20 Billion Steps the Final Countdown Activity

 

The 20 Billion Steps Together Challenge, the second challenge under the ‘BN on the Move’ initiative that began on 1st October has finally has reached the target at 7:20, 31st December evening. The Ministry of Health in support of EVYD Technology Sendirian Berhad, held a ‘BN on the Move – 20 Billion Steps The Final Countdown’. It took place on 31st December afternoon, at the Football Association Brunei Darussalam, FABD, Berakas.

 

Among those participating in the activity were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development AND Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. Also present was Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy for Fiscal. The activity comprised a 3-kilometre and 5-kilometre brisk walk around Taman Riadah, Jalan Pusat Persidangan.

Maternal and Child Health Service Relocation

The Maternal and Child Health Services that was operating at the Ong Sum Ping Condominium will be relocated to the Berakas Health Centre, RPN Lambak Kanan starting the 3rd of January 2023.

The Department of Health Services, Ministry of Health informed that the operating hours for the clinic is on Monday to Thursday and Saturday except on public holidays, from 7:45 in the morning to 12:15 in the afternoon, and 1:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon.

Joint Operation under Electricity Act

Department of Electrical Services, DES in collaboration with Royal Brunei Police Force and Brunei Darussalam Electricity Authority conducted the Second Joint Operation on 30th December, under the Electricity Act Chapter 71.

The operation was conducted at four premises and commercial buildings namely Kampung Jangsak Commercial Complex, Kampung Telanai, Kampung Kiulap and Aman Hills. The operation found all the four units at those areas were making unauthorised electrical connections and diverted electrical wiring from the metre for the operation of crypto currency mining. The operation aimed to improve electricity hazard and accident preventive measures related to activities involving electrical connections without permission, which is an offence under the Electricity Act. If found guilty, can be fined not more than $50,000 and imprisonment of not more than 3 years or both.

There are many types of calendars used around the world, such as the Gregorian calendar, Hijrah or Islamic calendar and others. A calendar maker, Dayang Nur Hamizah Haji Ramli shared with RTB News that the process of designing a calendar took her one month, while the photography process was done in two months. The calendar was well-received by the public and sold out within a week.

With a calendar, one can record the future schedule or activities. This helps us to manage our time better. During this technology era, most people are using app to divide and plan their future. Beauty of Islamic Calligraphy Art

The Islamic calligraphy art or Khat has an important role in Islam. With aesthetic and artistic values, Islamic calligraphy also acts as a medium for disseminating da'wah or propagation. Awang Hamdy bin Emran, Assistant Officer at Islamic Calligraphy and Art Study Centre, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the youth who uphold the Islamic calligraphy art as a great national treasure. Due to his concern that Islamic calligraphy engraved on the walls of mosques may have any mistakes, Awang Hamdy is determined to learn and further refine his calligraphy art.

Producing Islamic calligraphy art can train one's patience and show the precision of the writer. The beauty of Islamic calligraphy art will attract all viewers and increase their love towards the Qur'anic verse.
