In the modern world, zakat or tithe institutions must progress more aggressively in line the world’s development in aspects of tithe collection and distribution. There will challenges that must be faced in its implementation so that zakat institutions can progress well in delivering services entrusted to it. This was among the matters shared while tabling the Premier Paper Two titled ‘Empowering Muslim’s Socio-Economy through Tithe: Issues and Contemporary Challenges’ at PAP FIZ’s afternoon session.
In attendance was Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. The Premier Paper Two presented by Yang Berbahagia Sahibus Samahah Datuk Doctor Luqman bin Abdullah, Federal Territories Mufti, Malaysia explained that Zakat is an institution in Islam acting as an aid to the needy groups. Meanwhile, the Main Paper One titled ‘ Perception and Attitude of the Poor and Destitute Towards Tithe in Brunei Darussalam’ by Doctor Hajah Mas Nooraini binti Haji Mohiddin, Dean of Faculty of Syariah and Law, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University highlighted that zakat is one of the Islamic financial instrument that is capable of stabilising the economy.
Also held was the presentation of 6 working papers. PAP FIZ is a platform for disseminating knowledge and exchange of information or experience to be applied in Islamic economic development through tithe. PAP FIZ will continue this Monday, and members of the public are welcomed to attend the conference.
