‘Operasi Sai-Gone’

The Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB conducted ‘Operasi Sai-Gone’ targeting several places that are actively carrying out drug sales activities in Kampung Mumong and Kampung Panaga in Belait District. On the 19th and 22nd of December, the NCB arrested 17 people, comprising 11 men and 6 women.

The main suspect in the operation is a 49-year-old local man, who was arrested at Kampung Mumong, Kuala Belait.

Also confiscated were 273.91 grams of syabu, cannabis weighing 12.07 grams and cash amounting to $2,088 and RM$2,744. The confiscated syabu is estimated to be worth over $50,000 and can be used by approximately 2730 drug addicts.

Although the main suspect had served imprisonment and whipping sentences for committing an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27 and released after serving his sentence in 2020, the suspect is still returned to the illegal activity. The suspect is believed to be involved in the activity again after being released from prison to fill the void and meet the demand of the syabu drug market in Belait District following the success of the NCB in destroying syabu drug syndicates through the ‘Bulls Eye’, ‘Black Widow’, Ice Sibling’ and ‘Pirates’ operations.

The main suspect in Operasi ‘Sai-Gone’ will be charged under Section 3A of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), Chapter 27 which is for the offence of possessing a controlled drug for the purpose of trafficking over 100 grams which carries a sentence of death by hanging.

The NCB would like to remind once again that the Bureau will not hesitate to take firm action against syndicates or individuals who carry out illegal activities in order to maintain the safety and harmony of the society in Brunei Darussalam.
