‘Operasi Jackal’

Six locals comprised of four men and two women aged between 21 to 48 years old were detained during 'Operasi Jackal', Narcotics Control Bureau. The operation conducted from the 1st until 19th of March 2023 at four different locations while targeting one of the main drug supplier in Brunei Muara District.

As a result of the investigation, some of the individuals arrested were drug mules with different roles under the mastermind. The mastermind tactic was to use third party to smuggle drugs into Brunei Darussalam, store drug supplies and collect proceeds from drug trafficking activities. The tactic is hoped to confuse the authorities and avoid from being detected. Meanwhile, one of the arrested individual was a drug dealer who had been sentenced to 21 years of imprisonment. But such punishment did not stop him from being involved in drug trafficking activities. Investigation also found a hiding place for the drug supply, which was inside a container of Funmix brand biscuits hidden in a bushy area in the forest outside the home of one of the arrestee in Kampung Buang Sakar, Mukim Lumapas.

In total, Operasi Jackal has seized 1.078 kilogramme of syabu and 182.63 grams of cannabis. The confiscated syabu is estimated to be worth over 200 thousand dollars and can be used by approximately 10,748 drug addicts. Also seized were cash amounting $19,032; $67 Singapore Dollars and $1,228 Malaysian Ringgit which are believed to be proceeds from the drug trafficking activities and jewellery with overall weight of 94 grams.

Operasi Jackal is also the result of the exchange of intelligence information and cooperation between the Narcotics Control Bureau and counterpart agencies in neighbouring country, in which the mastermind is also related to the case of drug arrests on the border of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia that has gone viral on social media prior to this. The mastermind is a local citizen who not only has a drug trafficking network, but also work together with other syndicates in carrying out illegal activities such as online gambling and smuggling contraband.

The NCB is still investigating the suspects from the operation and will continue to take appropriate action to arrest the mastermind behind Operasi Jackal. The NCB is also seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of MOHAMMAD MAHADI BIN HAJI SUHAILI, holder of identity card number 00-269934 to assist in the investigation. The NCB reminds the public that operations aimed to stop the drug distribution network will continue to be implemented towards protecting the community and the citizens of the country from various security threats arising from criminal activities including drug crimes.
