In meeting the land demand from various sectors to generate national growth, the Department of Town and Country Planning as the responsible agency, needs to emphasise the importance of an optimal land use planning policy including a more effective and strategic land distribution mechanism. The Minister of Development emphasised the matter during the launch of Department of Town and Country Planning Golden Jubilee Celebration and World Urban Planning Day 2022. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid also said the policy aims to ensure the supply of land that has been or will be allocated for progress plans that have been identified can be implemented and yield positive results to support the three strategic goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035.
Yang Berhormat in his speech also called on the importance of the latest and comprehensive information during the review in identifying optimal land use planning policy and development control which are far-sighted, relevant, adaptable and conducive to fulfill current and future development needs in a balanced and strategic manner.
The ceremony coincided with the presentation of prizes for the juries and winners of the “My Ideal City” logo and drawing competition. Themed “Menyelusuri 50 Tahun Perancangan Bandar dan Desa: Pencapaian, Cabaran dan Masa hadapan” or “Reviewing 50 Years of Town and Country Planning: Achievements, Challenges and the Future”, several activities were organised to share achievements and challenges throughout the 50 years.
