The Land Transport Department, JPD, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications in its press release informed that an incident resulting in the long que of several commercial vehicles at the Kuala Lurah Control Post had occurred on Friday, 20th May 2022.

In this regard, JPD sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to those affected. With that, JPD informed that immediate action has been taken to ensure such things will not happen again. JPD also informed that the department's operating hours at Kuala Lurah, Sungai Tujoh, Labu and Ujung Jalan Control Posts is from 6 in the morning to 6 in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the last exit time is at 3 in the afternoon.

Launch of CIPTA Award 2023

 

Education is relevant in realising Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. According to the Minister of Education, among the objective of Sustainable Development Goal is to build resilient infrastructure, promotes inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and fosters innovation. Speaking during the Launching Ceremony of the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement, CIPTA Award 2023, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman explained that the award inculcates innovation mindsets in the country and the region. Themed ‘Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals’, the launching of the competition took place yesterday afternoon at Royal Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo And Riding Club, Jerudong.

 

The Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2023 was officiated by the Minister of Education. Earlier, Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei as Chairperson of CIPTA 2023 Executive Committee in her welcoming speech said that CIPTA competition has been extended to ASEAN member states towards promoting ingenuities throughout the region. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development and Datin Seri Paduka Doktor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education.

Visit to Several Primary Schools

Physical schooling sessions in Tutong District also ran smoothly and orderly. Most of the students who started the school session were very excited as they were able to go back to school as usual and meet the teacher. Yesterday morning, the Deputy Minister of Education held a visit to 3 primary schools in the district.

Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Rumaizah binti Haji Muhd Salleh took a closer look at the implementation and guidelines of the SOPs in Bakiau Primary School, Panchong Primary School and Rambai Primary School. During the visit, students in the schools complied with the SOPs by wearing face masks, scanning the Bruhealth application and checking body temperature before entering the classroom. The school also made some preparations so that students feel more comfortable. For pre -school students, the day is very meaningful to them as they step into a new world and become school students.

Face-To-Face School Session Begins

50,000 students from all levels including those aged 5 to 11 regardless of vaccination status, began their face to face schooling session yesterday. To ensure that the learning session runs smoothly, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education yesterday morning made a visit to three government primary schools in the Belait District.

At the Sungai Teraban Primary School, the delegation took a closer look at the school's implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, SOPs and the facilities provided to curb COVID-19. To ensure the health and safety of the school's staff and students, the implementation of ART screening is still maintained 3 times a week, that is, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

During the first week of school reopening, several activities under "Siuknya Ke Sekolah" programme was carried out by the school such as doa and zikir, ice-breaking and motivation sessions.

Such a programme was also conducted at the Kuala Belait Primary School aimed to further help the students' mind-set to be more positive.

Arabic Language Dialogue Session

 

‘Bahasa Arab: Bahasa Al- Quran’, or Arabic Language: Al-Quran Language, was the theme for the virtual Arabic Language Dialogue Session. The dialogue session organised by Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School was among the efforts to improve skills in using the Arabic Language as communication language specifically in conversational skills.

 

The session involved three Arabic schools, namely Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Secondary School and Ma’had Islam Brunei. The session included an Arabic Language Quiz Competition in conjunction with the Nuzul Al-Quran celebration which was won by Awang Abdul Matin bin Zulnorein from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School. Meanwhile, Muhammad Darwisy Al-Syahiran Bin Rashidi from Ma’had Islam Brunei and Awangku Muhammad Nur Ulfi Hakeemi Bin Pengiran Bahrin from Ma’had Islam Brunei won the second and third places respectively.

International Congress of Malay Language

The International Congress of the Malay Language, Literature and Culture Series held virtually in conjunction with the Language Month continued this week with the 9th Presentation Series. It was organised by the Language and Literaure Bureau through the Language Construction and Development Division

 

The congress was joined by Awang Suip bin Haji Abd. Wahab, Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau. More than 110 people joined the virtual event. The literature Keynote Address titled ‘Feminisme Dalam Perkembangan Kesusasteraan Melayu or Feminism in the Development of Malay Literature was delivered by Dayang Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin, Former Director of Language and Literature Bureau. Among others, she explained on the image of women and female characters in novels written and illustrated by Malay and Muslim male writers. In addition, the presentation also explores on women’s position from the Islamic perspective which upholds the dignity of women as well as the view of feminist movement in several countries standing up for equal rights between both genders.

Al-Quran4life Programme Closing Ceremony

 

The Al-Quran4Life Programme closing ceremony: Surah Al-Kahfi Edition which took place for 4 days was held yesterday morning. The programme was organized by the Da’ie Youth Volunteer Body under the Youth Religious Program Secretariat, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

 

Awang Haji Abd Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of the Islamic Da’wah Center in a speech said that such a programme would be able to produce a literate Al-Quran generation.

 

42 participants including facilitators and guest speakers received their respective certificates. The Al-Quran4Life Programme: Surah Al-Kahfi Edition is attended by the public, especially youths aged 17 to 25 who are interested in increasing their Al-Quran knowledge during Ramadhan.

Khatam Al-Quran & Donation Presentation held by UBD

The Universiti Brunei Darussalam UBD community yesterday morning also held a Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony and Donation Presentation in conjunction with the Nuzul Al-Quran celebration.

 

Present was Doctor Awang Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of UBD. The event is an annual religious event organised by the Student Affairs Division, UBD together with the Spiritual and Community Service Unit and UBD Students’ Association which aims to support and encourage the reading of Al-Quran and appreciate the formation of a Zikir Nation. It ran concurrently with the presentation of donations for orphans, widows and converts from UBD members.

Parents Responsibility to Educate Children in Fasting

Fasting is obligatory for every Muslim who has reached puberty, is of sound mind, has no illness and are not travelling during the month of Ramadhan. Children are also fasting during the holy month. It is the duty and responsibility of parents in educating their young children to fast.

 

Among the obligatory requirements for fasting is puberty. Children who has reached puberty are obligated to fast in Ramadhan. Meanwhile it is not obligatory for children who has not reached puberty to fast as well as perform qadha.

 

The role of parents is crucial in inculcating the noble practice in children. It is because a perfect and balanced early education can form a strong self-identity and in turn will create a harmonious muslim family and blessed by Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.

 

Each time Ramadhan arrives apart from parents, children are also excited to experience the benefits of fasting.

Registration Form for Arabic Secondary School 2022 Session

Registration for Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School, SMALHB is opened for two days until today. Registration forms can be obtained from 8:30 in the morning until 12:00 noon at Block B, Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School.

 

For graduates from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary School and Mahad Islam Brunei, forms are available at Room 1, SMALHB Gallery. Meanwhile, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute graduates, can obtained the forms from Room 2, nearby SMALHB Gallery.

 

Forms are available for $2.50 and should be returned on working days not later than Saturday, 30th April 2022 before 12 noon. Only one representative, either student, parent or guardian is allowed to get the registration forms.

Examination Results for SPUB, Pre-STPUB & STPUB 1442H/2021

 

The Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Examinations Division, Department of Islamic Studies as the Secretariat of the Brunei Religious Education Examination Board released the results of the Brunei Religious Education Certificate SPUB; Pre-Brunei Religious Education High Certificate, Pre-STPUB and Brunei Religious Education of Higher Certificate STPUB for 1442 Hijrah/2021. For the SPUB Examination, from 768 candidates who sat for the examination, 413 candidates managed to obtain at least Jayyid or Good rank in all subjects.

 

Meanwhile, 655 candidates obtained at least three Jayyid ranks. Of the number, 129 candidates managed to obtain an aggregate of 6 to 8. For the Pre-STPUB, from 289 Pre-U1 candidates who sat for the exam, 288 obtained at least one Jayyid rank. 199 candidates managed to obtain at least Jayyid rank in all the subjects, an increase of 2.45 percent of a candidate’s achievement in 2020. For the STPUB examination, 241 out of 258 candidates have passed. 41.09 percent of the candidates obtained the rank of Mumtaz or Distinction.

 

The result slips can be obtained, starting on 25th of April 2022 at the respective schools or at the office of the Examination Division, Department of Islamic Studies for private candidates. Candidates who wish to further their studies to the Pre-U level at the Hassanal Bolkiah Boys’ Arabic Secondary School can obtain the registration form from 26th April 2022 at 8:30 in the morning at the school. Completed forms must be returned not later than 30th April 2022.

Japanese Government Scholarship Recipients

 

Two Bruneian students selected to receive Japanese Government Scholarship. They are the first group of students who will depart from Brunei to Japan after the relaxation of restrictions on travels starting 1st of April 2022.

 

His Excellency Maeda Toru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam recently held a meeting with scholarship’s recipients on 18th April 2022. Dayang Aimi Iffa Radhiah binti Abdullah Zulhimi will study in Master of Science in Digital Business and Innovation at Tokyo International University Graduate School. Meanwhile, Dayang Nurul Nurasrienah binti Masri will study in ICT and Media Technology at Waseda University for a two-year Master’s degree. Registration for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technology, MEXT, Japan scholarships open annually. Scholarships include tuition funding, cost of living and transportation between Brunei Darussalam and Japan.
