Declaration of Intent

Next was the Declaration of Intent between the Ministry of Defence of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Türkiye on Defence Cooperation. Signing on behalf of His Majesty's Government was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, while signing on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Türkiye was Professor Dr. Ismail Demir, President of the Defence Industry Agency of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye.

The Declaration of Intent, DoI is to establish a framework for defence cooperation with a view to enhancing and developing cooperation between both countries.

International Women’s Day 2023 Message

According to statistics, women comprise more than 47 percent of the total population in Brunei Darussalam. Therefore, women in the country have a vital role and contribution in the socio-economic development and maintaining peace as well as security. The Minster of Culture, Youth and Sports stated the matter in a message in conjunction with the International Women's Day 2023.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said based on the Research on Women's Development in Brunei Darussalam, which has been carried out on female respondents aged 15 and over throughout the country, women's involvement in the digital, engineering and information communication technology, ICT fields still has room for improvement.

This year's theme, DigitALL: Innovation and Technology' emphasises the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls in the digital space and addressing violence online and in ICT.

State Banquet

In honour of the State Visit, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam also attended the State Banquet.

The State Banquet was hosted by His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, which was held at the Presidential Palace.

Wreath Laying Ceremony

In a separate event held earlier this afternoon, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended a Wreath Laying Ceremony that took place at Anitkabir, Ankara. The Anitkabir - which was officially opened on 1st September 1953 - is a mausoleum dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of the Turkish War of Independence, as well as the founder and first president of the Republic of Türkiye.

The arrival of His Majesty at Anitkabir was greeted by Colonel Ümit Yücelen, Commander of Anitkabir. Also present was His Excellency Mustafa Varank, Minister of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye.

His Majesty then laid a wreath at the mausoleum.
