Signs Installation

 

Installation works of Variable Message Signs and Variable Speed Limit Signs is currently ongoing at the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge for a month. The installation work began on the 16th of October, from 8:30 at night to 6 in the morning.

 

The Public Works Department, Ministry of Development advised the road users to always be careful when passing through the bridge as well as comply with traffic signs and drive within the speed limit.

Failure to Wear Face Mask Properly

 

A video footage went viral on social media showing an individual inside a business premise and not wearing a face mask properly. The incident happened on the 14th of October at 10 in the morning at Pandan Empat, Jalan Jaya Negara, Kuala Belait. The senior citizen was initially reminded to wear a face mask by a shop assistant, which he ignored, prompting the shop assistant to contact the COVID-19 report hotline.

 

Police personnel from the Kuala Belait Police Station brought the man to the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital for COVID-19 swab test prior to further investigation. The 60-year-old man was release on police bail to allow information and evidence gathering before to be brought to the court. He was issued a compound fine for an offence under the Infectious Diseases Act 204.

16 Compound Fines Issued during ‘Operasi Pulih’

 

16 violations were issued with compound fines during ‘Operasi Pulih’ conducted on the 16th of October 2021 from 8 last night to 4 in the morning.

 

13 offences recorded in Brunei Muara District; 2 in Belait District and one offence in Tutong District. Citizens and residents must work together in curbing COVID-19 in the country and assist the government in implementing various initiatives in phases to bring the country out of this pandemic.

Fire Incident at Kampung Burong Pangai Ayer

 

A fire ravaged four houses in Kampong Burong Pingai Ayer, 16th October night. Taking a closer look at the site were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

 

The observation was carried out to hear information on the latest status and actions taken by government agencies in assisting the affected residents towards maintaining their well-being and safety. Also visited was Sungai Kebun Sports Complex, the temporary settlement for the affected villagers. Following the incident, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Department of Community Development, JAPEM has provided assistance in the form of food rations and some daily necessities to the affected families.

2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference

Brunei Darussalam’s aspirations towards achieving sustainable transportation through three main components, first – Progressive enhancement of road safety, second – Re-strategize current national public transport system and thirdly – making Brunei Darussalam a smart nation and smart city by leveraging on innovation, research and development. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications shared the statement at the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport conference via video conferencing held from 14th to 16th of October 2021. During the Ministers’ Forum titled ‘Sustainable transport, poverty, eradication and economic recovery – direct exchange of views and sharing of national experiences’, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul  Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya  Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof expressed that through transport management, it will allow further understanding and insight into emerging trends and patterns that serve as a major input towards the formulation of Brunei Darussalam’s national transport policies. Among the national transport policies being currently addressed include initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and promoting the use of multimodal transportation.

 

Yang Berhormat Minister also expressed that the Conference came at the right time for participating member countries to share their experiences as well as exchanging thoughts and ideas in addressing issues and challenges during the global COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the transportation system, logistics, supply chain and economies in unprecedented ways. With the theme ‘Sustainable Transport, Sustainable Development’, the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport was officiated by His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China and His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations. Presiding the Conference was His Excellency Li Xiaopeng, Minister of Transport of the People’s Republic of China. The Conference discussed key issues within six thematic sessions. During the Closing Ceremony, the Beijing Statement of the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference was announced, which outlines the importance and way forward towards sustainable and transport transformation.

Dikir Syarafil Anam Closing Ceremony

The Dikir Syarafil Anam Closing Ceremony in conjunction with Maulud Nabi Muhammad Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam for 1443H/2021, will be held on 18 October 2021 at 8:15 at night through Radio Television Brunei at RTB Aneka television channel, Nasional FM, Nur Islam FM AND Harmoni FM radio networks as well as RTBGo online.

Dikir Syarafil Anam

The Ministry of Finance and Economy and Departments under it held a Dikir Syarafil Anam virtually in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam celebration.

 

Participating in the event was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy. The event organised by Department of Economic Planning and Statistics in collaboration with Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque Takmir Committee was held to further enliven the Maulidur Rasul celebration. Also joining the event was Dato Seri Paduka Dr. Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy for Economy.

Home Isolation Policy for COVID-19 Patients

In the media conference, the Minister of Health shared that since the commencement of the Home Isolation Policy for COVID-19 patients on the 8th of October 2021, 507 patients in Category 1 and Category 2a are currently undergoing their self-isolation at homes.

 

The Ministry of Health reminded all patients to comply with the directives of the self-isolation at home and provide cooperation to the Ministry of Health when contacted. Monitoring of patients such as through telephone calls are made by the Ministry of Health to ensure that patients are in good condition and the symptoms of their infection do not worsen. Permission to undergo self-isolation at home will be revoked for anyone found not cooperating during the monitoring and they will be taken to isolation centres.

16 Violations Recorded

 

At the media conference, the Minister of Health also shared that on 16th of October 2021, a total of 8 thousand 22 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. That means, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 341,702 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 75.3 per cent of the total population. Meanwhile, 230,863 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 50.9 per cent of the total population.

 

The Ministry of Health also informed that the Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic services will be conducted at Lamunin Health Centre, Tutong for three days, starting on 18th until 21st of October 2021 from 9:00 in the morning until 2:30 in the afternoon, especially for residents of Mukim Lamunin and its surroundings. Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Health Centre, Kampung Sungai Asam on Friday, 22nd of October 2021 and Sunday, 24th of October 2021 from 9:00 in the morning until 2:30 in the afternoon, especially for residents of Kampong Ayer and its surroundings. Meanwhile, the vaccination services to houses will be conducted on Saturday, 23 October 2021 according to the list provided by the Village Head. The local community who wish to get the COVID-19 vaccination can come directly by walk-in by bringing along their identification card/passport as well as BruHIMS card or number, if available. For those who are unable to attend on their own to the health centres due to health problems or limited movement, they can register or be registered through the Village Head for vaccination arrangements at their respective homes.

 

Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 last night until 4 in the morning, a total of 16 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 12 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

National Level Maulidur Rasul Celebration for 1443 Hijrah

Brunei Darussalam will hold the National Level Maulidur Rasul Celebration for 1443 Hijrah on Tuesday, 19th of October 2021.

 

The Ministry of Religious Affairs in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and supported by Radio Television Brunei will broadcast the National Level Maulidur Rasul Celebration for 1443 Hijrah on RTB Perdana, RTB Aneka and RTB Sukmaindera as well as all RTB radio networks and RTBGo on the 19th of October 2021 from 12:30 in the afternoon. Carrying the theme ‘Rasulullah Kekasih Allah, Kekasihku Dunia Akhirat,’ activities include the reading of Al-Qur’an, Dikir Marhaban, recitation of Selawat, Poetry Declamation and a special talk.

504 New Cases, 4 Clusters Detected, 195 Recovered

 

504 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 10,860.

 

There are 208 additional new cases to 30 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases. Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected that involved 93 cases. All of the new clusters are residence clusters where three of it, namely Jalan Kota Batu Construction Cluster, Trentset Construction Sdn Bhd, and Bato Apoi Construction Cluster which are housing clusters where the companies’ employees are residing. Three clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are 2629 Cluster, 3892 Cluster and 4812 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 170 clusters. 203 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 

195 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 8,045 cases, with 2,741 cases remaining active. Among the cases seven cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine, ECMO. 29 Category 4 cases require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, 5,657 samples have been tested for the SARS-Co-V-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 442,053 tests.
