451 graduates received Masters and Bachelor's Degrees in various disciplines at the Convocation of University Technology Brunei, UTB this year. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam who is the Chancellor of UTB graced the ceremony and officiate the presentation of degrees to the graduates.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education as Chairman of UTB's Council; Awang Haji Ady Syarmin bin Haji Mohd Taib, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB.

Also present was His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Pro-Chancellor of UTB.

The reading of Al-Quran verse of Al-Baqarah by Awang Abdul Qawi bin Haji Mohamed Hussain, Bachelor's degree graduate in Mechanical Engineering among other matters highlighted knowledge as the key to life success not only in this world but the Hereafter too. Islam also places knowledge on a very important place in people's lives.

In a welcoming address, Acting Vice Chancellor of UTB underscored a number of the university's achievements. Among the, UTB began to offer the full Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering Programme at the university since the 2019/2020 academic session. The four-year programme was previously offered in articulation with the University of New South Wales, Australia.

The Acting Vice Chancellor said, in the field of research, UTB has revised its focus so that research efforts are more strategic, directed, relevant and capable of impacting on society inline with the university's vision and basic goal of the research to enrich knowledge in the related fields. He said six cross discipline research thrusts have been introduced namely Energy; Sustainable Built environment; Digital and Creativity; Wellness; Agrifood; as well as Society and Enterprise.

His Majesty then then delivered the titah of authority of the Chancellor of UTB to confer the Masters and Bachelor's degrees to the graduates.

From 4 hundred and 51 graduates, 100 received the Masters Degrees in Research and Coursework in Business; Computing and Informatics; and Engineering. Meanwhile 3 hundred and 51 received the Bachelor Degrees in Engineering, Business and Computing and Informatics.

Currently UTB is offering 25 Bachelor's degree programmes, 10 Master's degree programmes through research and courses and the Doctor of Philosophy or PhD degrees in Engineering, Business, Computing and Informatics, Applied Science, Mathematics and Designing.

Masters and Doctor of Philosophy programmes offered at UTB continue to attract students pursuing higher academic achievements. Currently, 191 students are studying at the Masters level either BY Coursework or Research, while 104 others attend the Doctor of Philosophy programmes in various disciplines.

In the effort to boost its research activities, UTB organise two more projects with the cooperation of institutions in ASEAN and Japan. Doa selamat was read by the State Mufti.

UTB is 379 in the Quacquarelle Symonds', QS World University Rankings, evaluated with one thousand and six hundred twenty institutions from 82 countries in the world. It is an improvement of 63 places from its 442 position last year.

So far, UTB has produced 199 Master's degree graduates, 1,784 Bachelor's degree graduates, 295 Higher National Diploma, Level 5 graduates and 5,141 Higher National Diploma, BDTVEC graduates. This includes Masters of Science degrees in Informatics Security from the School of Computing and Informatics, and Masters of Science degrees In Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the faculty of Engineering. This year is the first convocation for the first batch of students in that discipline.
