The 37th session of the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting, A.M.E.M. was held for two days until yesterday in Bangkok, Thailand. The opening ceremony was held jointly with the launch of the ASEAN Energy Business Forum, AEBF. It was officiated by His Excellency Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister of Thailand. Representing Brunei Darussalam at the meeting was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussein, Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry; and His Excellency Awang Haji Ismail bin Haji Abdul Manap, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Kingdom of Thailand.

With the theme “Advancing Partnership through Sustainability”, the 37th A.M.E.M among others discussed the progress of the activities implemented under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation Phase 1 2015-2020. Among the activities included the ASEAN Power Grid, APG, and Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline, TAGP. Other associated meetings that took place at the time were the 16th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting, AMEM Plus Three, and the 13th East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting, EAS EMM. At the 13th EAS EMM, the country’s delegation reported the progress of the Renewable and Alternative Power Generation Work Stream, which was co-chaired with the Republic of Korea. Currently, both countries are looking at carrying out activities focused on wind power technologies in the East Asia Summit.

Meanwhile, the Gala Dinner in conjunction with the 37th ASEAN AMEM, saw the Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry together with Yang Berhormat Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia presented the ASEAN Energy Awards 2019 to the project owner, Loo Kuan Look from BIT Computer Sdn Bhd. He won the ‘the special submission’ category with a project titled “Solar PV Aquaponic System, Brunei Darussalam”.
