A new policy for the recruitment of foreign workers which involves streamlining the processes in obtaining Foreign Workers Recruitment License and Workers Permit, which will be known as the new application process for Foreign Workers License, will be introduced on the 1st of October.

Awang Haji Idris bin Haji Md Ali, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, disclosed the matter during a media conference for the implementation of the new process. Awang Haji Idris said the implementation of the new process aims to provide quality and efficient service, and facilitate the public’s dealings with the Labour Department. The new process will see the processing time reduced from 41 working days to 9 working days.

With the new application process for Foreign Workers License in place, the system for Foreign Workers Recruitment License using quotas will be discontinued. In terms of facilities for the new process, the relevant agencies will be placed at counters of the Labour Department and the Immigration and National Registration Department. This also aims to support the country’s aspirations of establishing a pro-business environment and in prioritising locals for positions in industries which are held by foreign workers, where vacancies will be filled by locals in stages with the introduction of the Local to Foreign workers Ratio.
