The assistance rendered by the government to the poor and destitute as well as new converts are hoped to provide them with an opportunity to improve their living standards to a more comfortable level, and ensure that there are no groups marginalised from the teachings of Islam.

It also aims to encourage them to work harder and be more independent and not depend solely on the government. The matter was stated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs while making a courtesy visit to the poor and destitute as well as new converts in conjunction with the 1438 Hijrah New Year Celebration for the Temburong District in the morning.

During the visit, Yang Berhormat Pehin placed the Kampong Selapon Dakwah Sign Post, and later handed over donations in the form of basic necessities to 19 people comprising the poor and destitute as well as new converts.

Yang Berhormat Pehin and delegation then visited the house of Awang Hussin bin Abdullah, a poor and destitute recipient in Kampung Selapon Batu Apoi. Two of Awang Husin’s children are persons with exceptional abilities. The delegation also visited the house of Dayang Nur Haziah binti Abd. Rahman in Kampung Batang Duri, Mukim Amo, as well as the houses of two new converts.
