DSWD-Central Visayas Vocational Center Commits to Expanded Training for PWDs

CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-Central Visayas) has announced an expansion of vocational training programs for persons with disabilities (PWDs), following the vocational rehabilitation center's new designation as a 'Center of Excellence.'

According to Philippines News Agency, the center recently received a seven-year certificate for level 3 accreditation, as recommended by the DSWD's Standards Bureau. This recognition underscores the center’s commitment to maintaining high standards in serving PWDs, who are its primary clientele. "The credit goes to the entire workforce of the center for having the dedication to keep the facility at par to the standards and true to its statement of quality policy," Lucero stated.

In 2023, the center served approximately 224 clients through various programs, including community-based skills training, job placement, rehabilitative service, technical assistance, vocational training, and provision of prostheses. The center is dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities affecting vision, hearing, speech, and mobility, as well as those with other physical, mental, and social impairments. It also supports special groups willing to undergo vocational rehabilitation.

Lucero emphasized that the accreditation and recognition as a Center of Excellence motivate the facility to continue providing the highest standard of service to more PWDs in the region.
