Lumut Lunting Poetic Drama Performance

Youth’s talent in theatrical performance shone through at the Lumut Lunting Poetic Drama. The theatrical performance which highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s history was co-organised by the High Commission of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam and the Reading and Literacy Association, RELA. It was held 20th June Night at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

 

In attendance was Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The Poetic Drama underlined the history of Brunei Darussalam during the reign of the first Sultan of Brunei, involving 16 youths from various education institutions. Also present were Her Excellency Nahida Rahman Shumona, High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam and Members of the Legislative Council.

Phase Two of National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19 Begins

 

Phase Two of the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19 starts yesterday for teachers, childcare center staff and adults at high risk or suffering from chronic diseases. At the same time, the COVID-19 Moderna vaccines are also offered starting yesterday to all citizens and residents in Brunei Darussalam in phases.

 

The safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine has been verified by the Brunei Darussalam Medicines Control Authority, BDMCA, following a stringent scientific assessment process by the National COVID-19 Vaccines Technical Committee. The BDMCA has granted Special Authorization to administer the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine in Brunei Darussalam during Public Health Emergency or Pandemic situation. As of the 19th of June 2021, total vaccine doses administered was 66,972.

 

Individuals in Phase Two who wish to participate in the COVID-19 National Vaccination Programme can reserve a slot through the BruHealth application. The public is also reminded to ensure that their BruHealth accounts have been authenticated, and update personal information in their Bru-HIMS account at government clinics or hospitals. Even though the second phase has begun, vaccination for the first phase still continues.

‘Kitani Peduli Temburong-Palestin’ Event

​In an effort to help Palestinians and provide opportunities for locals especially Temburong District residents to be active in entrepreneurship, a Car Boot Sale ‘Kitani Peduli Temburong-Palestine’ event was held yesterday morning. It was organised by the Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils in Temburong District in collaboration with the Temburong District Office.

 

Apart from economic activities, also held were mini bazaar sales of food products and other activities such as colouring contests for children. Visitors are also encouraged to donate to the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund. Proceeds from the registration fee of the 25 participants in the event will be donated to the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund.

Library Fun Sale

​In an effort by the Language and Literature Bureau to make the library as a community centre, the Kampong Pandan Language and Literature Bureau in Kuala Belait, yesteday morning held a Library Fun Sale. The event was held at Kampung Pandan Language and Literature Bureau in Kuala Belait.

 

Seven small entrepreneurs participated in the event. Apart from making the library as a place of reference and borrowing books, the event is also intended to make it a community centre to provide opportunities for the public to share skills and expertise. The fun sale was also enlivened with the children activities provided by the Kampong Pandan Language and Literature Bureau.

Launching of Al-Quran Reading Ceremony

​75 participants comprising Kampung Batu Marang Mosque Takmir Committee and Muslimah took part in the launching of Al-Quran Reading for Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony in conjunction with the 75th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

 

Present was Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Zaini bin Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin, the Mosque Takmir Advisor. The ceremony began with the mass reading of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by holy verses.

Code for Fun Programme

​The Code for Fun programme was among the event lined up for the Digital Technology Week Programme in conjunction with MICE 2021.

 

The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, AITI conducted the programme as one of the learning initiatives to support the development of computational thinking skills and programming in a practical and fun way for students at the primary school level to learn the basics of coding by using smart devices. The trainee for this programme was Edu Champ Academic Tuition School.

Cyber Battle Event

​Meanwhile, the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition or MICE 2021 was filled with Digital Technology Week Programme. The programme was organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Universiti Teknologi Brunei and InfoCom Federation Brunei. It was highlighted with the 6th edition of Cyber Battle: Capture the Flag, CTF by Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam AITI and IT Protective Security Services Sendirian Berhad, ITPSS.

 

Present was Ingenieur Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications. 10 teams competed in the finals of the cyber battle. APT9000 emerged champion of the competition. Prizes were presented by Haji Sufian bin Sabtu, Director of Internal Security Department as ITPSS Chairman of the Board of Directors.

 

ITPSS also held public presentation by experts and professional of local cybersecurity on various cybersecurity topics including Careers in Cybersecurity; Video Forensic in a Nutshell and Internet of Vulnerable Things, IoVT.

Viral Audio

Following a viral audio recording of a conversation between a mother and a teacher regarding the dissatisfaction on a teacher’s ethic, the Ministry of Education would like to advise members of the public especially parents that any inquiries and complaints can be raised through proper procedures.

 

Any inquiries or complaints on the education services or teachers at school may be brought to the respective school leader or the Ministry of Education. Apart from that, the Ministry of Education also has various online platforms such as website and social media accounts which is opened for the public to raise any concerns and inquiries. The issues brought up will be addressed in an appropriate manner and time frame.

 

The Ministry of Education also emphasised that the safety and security of the school community and the Ministry are protected by law. Actions will be taken by the authority against any threat, violence, discrimination, verbal abuse or obstruction of any public servant which hinders them from their public duties. The Ministry of Education take the viral recording seriously and the matter is currently under investigation. In this regard the Ministry of Education seeks the public’s cooperation in maintaining the well-being and the good name of the school community and all parties concerned.

Population and Housing Census

The eCensus implementation of the Population and Housing Census BPP 2021 which will end on the 21st of June 2021 is extended until the 21st of July 2021. The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, JPES, Ministry of Finance and Economy in its media release announced an additional period for filling in the eCensus which is to provide opportunities for users to complete their respective eCensus in an orderly manner.

 

The eCensus clinics to assist in filling out the eCensus will continue to be conducted and the latest schedule will be notified through the BPP 2021 portal at www.brucensus.gov.bn. The implementation of the Third Stage of BPP 2021 Face-to-Face Interview scheduled from the 20th of July to the 2nd of August 2021 is now postponed to the 2nd to the 29th of August 2021.

 

Heads of households and families who have opted for face-to-face interviews are encouraged to try out the eCensus by visiting any of the scheduled eCensus clinics, or to contact JPES directly or call the hotline as follow.

‘Coding Conquest’ 2021′ Workshop

The two-day Coding Conquest 2021 organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB with the support of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism ended yesterday. Sponsored by Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry, AITI and facilitated by Grominda Sendirian Berhad, the workshop was part of the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition, MYCE Digital Technology Week 2021.

 

Held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, the workshop covers a range of professional development topics including Project Management, Programming and Design Thinking conducted by experienced trainers and mentors from Grominda. The workshop’s objective was to ensure the participants are equipped and prepared for the upcoming main hackaton which is held in December in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival.

‘Innovations for Society 5.0’

 

​’Innovations for Society 5.0′ was the theme for the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2021 which stressed a multi-dimensional technological innovation to fulfil the needs of the global community by tackling 17 main elements of the Sustainable Development Goals. The theme was also inline with the aspiration of Wawasan Brunei 2035 to produce workforce that is creative, innovative and skilled in science and technology to ensure excellent quality of life and towards a prosperous and sustainable economy.

 

The Crown Prince CIPTA Award is capable of generating innovation by providing a platform that enables invention and innovation of high quality. At the same time, the competition can also act as an encouragement to improve the quality of life of a technologically literate society. In an interview with RTB, several participants of the Crown Prince CIPTA 2021 shared their projects for the said competition.

CIPTA 2021 Executive Seminar

​A strong motivation and a justified cause will bring life to an invention, materialise from ideas and creation that were brought to another level. This was among the matters underlined at the CIPTA 2021 Executive Seminar yesterday morning. The seminar, which is the first of its kind, is taking place for 3 days until the 20th of June in conjunction with the CIPTA Award 2021 organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad.

 

Present was Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice Chancellor of UTB. The seminar began with welcoming remarks by the Head of CIPTA 2021 Seminar Committee, Doctor Wida Susanty binti Haji Suhaili. A number working paper working papers were tabled by speakers from Malaysia and Indonesia. The seminar is also held as part of the Digital Technology Week at Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition or Brunei MYCE by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
