Butig in Lanao del Sur Receives P25 Million New Municipal Building

Lanao del Sur, Philippines – The municipality of Butig, a sixth-class town in Lanao del Sur, celebrated the turnover of a new two-story municipal building, a project backed by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). This development marks a significant milestone for the community, known for its historical significance.

According to Philippines News Agency, the new town hall is a symbol of good governance and unity for the people of Butig. He emphasized the building’s role as a hub for services for constituents, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering a prosperous future for the region. Butig is historically notable as the location of Camp Bushra, one of the six camps of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) before the 2014 peace agreement with the government.

The turnover ceremony was attended by Governors Bombit Adiong Jr. of Lanao del Sur and Abdulraof Macacua of Maguindanao del Norte, along with mayors from both provinces. Governor Adiong praised the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government – BARMM for prioritizing Butig and other towns in Lanao del Sur in its development programs and projects. The statement also mentioned the Maute brothers, natives of Butig, who led the 2017 Marawi siege. Other former MILF camps in the region include Camp Bilal (Lanao provinces), Camps Abubakar, Badre, and Omar (Maguindanao), and Camp Rajamuda (North Cotabato/Maguindanao).
