Opportunities for collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region as well as economic and health responses to accelerate recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic are set to be among the main focus of discussions between leaders from member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, APEC during the APEC Informal Leaders' Retreat Meeting, which is set to be held virtually via video conference on Friday, 16th of July 2021.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will join the APEC Meeting, which will be chaired by The Right Honourable Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand as APEC Chairperson for 2021. The APEC Meeting will also hear presentations from the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF and the Executive Director of the Health Emergencies Programme at the World Health Organisation, WHO, covering the economic and health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC comprises of 21 member economies in the Asia-Pacific Region, namely Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; the People's Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; the Republic of Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; the Republic of the Philippines; the Russian Federation; the Republic of Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; the United States; and Viet Nam. The 28th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, AELM, which sets the policy agenda for APEC, is expected to be held in November 2021.
