Olympic Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide to commemorate the birth of modern Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognises the 23rd of June as Olympic Day and encourages National Olympic Committees (NOCS) from around the world to organise events with the purpose of enlightening the community about the Olympic Movement that is “to nurture a spirit of mutual understanding and friendship and to contribute to the construction of a peaceful and better world through sports”. This represents the fundamental spirit of the Olympics.
In the effort of supporting IOCs’s objectives, Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) with Collaboration from the Department of Youth and Sports once again is organising an Olympic Day event this Sunday, the 30th of June 2019 at 8.15 in the morning at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. Various activities have been lined up to commemorate the celebration and these activities are open to everyone and can be participated by all age groups. There will be sports activities which include football 5 a-side, kids’ athletics, hockey, netball, taekwondo, karatedo and traditional games.
There will also be exhibitions on 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to be organised by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Sports Medicine and Research Centre (SMRC) and Brunei Darussalam Anti-Doping Committee.
