Islam advocates that its ummah read Al-Quran because the Quranic verses are enlightenment, an antidote or remedy and saviour as well as a preferable religious practice of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam. The subject was a highlight of a talk in conjunction with the Revelation of Al-Quran organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The event which coincided with the presentation of donations to orphans took place at the Ministry yesterday morning.

The function was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The talk titled, "Al-Quran, the Light That Guides the Ummah" was delivered by Doctor Haji Hambali bin Haji Jaili, Director of Knowledge and Language Promotion Centre, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA.

During the event 39 orphans of officers and staff of the Ministry and its departments received donations. Also present were Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Ishak, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali and Awang Abdul Halidi bin Mohd Salleh, Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry.
