'Indahnya Islam' or Beauty of Islam is the theme for a photography Exhibition showcases at the Art Gallery, Royal Wharf in the capital. The exhibition is held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Brunei Darussalam Photographic Association. 52 photographs by 21 members of the Association are displayed with hopes to give a bigger and clearer picture of Brunei Darussalam as a Malay Islamic Monarchy to the public specifically tourists and as a support towards the Zikir Nation. The exhibition is organised in collaboration between The Brunei Photographic Society and the Museums Department. It opens until the 20th of May 2019, displaying pictures that feature the beauty of Islam such as well-known landmarks in Negara Brunei Darussalam, culture of Brunei weddings as well as the uniqueness of Islam practiced in the country. This event also serves as a platform for photographic fans, both locals and tourists to instil interest and appreciation towards the aesthetic value of photography at the gallery. According to the President of Brunei Darussalam Photographic Association, pictures tell thousand words.
Photography is not limited to capturing images but it carries a story with it. A picture showing men in uniform carrying the flag of Brunei Darussalam before the National Day marching on 23rd February by Awang Amri bin Haji Md Salleh has its own message.
Meanwhile a picture titled 'Seni Budaya Melayu' by Awang Haji Hamidun bin Haji Md Noor reflects the finest of Brunei's culture.
These photographs titled 'Maulidur Rasul,' 'Doa Untukmu' and 'Majlis Khatam Al-Quran' respectively portray the daily practiced by Bruneians who have prioritised Islamic Teachings in all aspects.
One of the exhibitors, Awang Wong Siew Hang who has been in photography for the last 20 years mentions his deep passion that contributes to his experience on the job.
The arts of photography is always evolving, relevant and is in high demand in society. It also plays important roles among lives and history of humankind. Aside from being a platform to further motivate members of the Association, the exhibition also aims at encouraging the public to instil their passion and appreciation of the photography values. Furthermore, this photography display is in conjunction with Bandar Seri Begawan being the Centre of Islamic Civilisation for Asian Region 2019 and opens to public viewing from 9 am until 3 pm and on Fridays from 9 am until 12 pm.
