Cancer is the leading cause of death in the Brunei Darussalam overcoming heart or cardiac problems. According to the Executive Director of Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre, PJSC, as in other countries, Brunei Darussalam is also actively raising awareness and taking several measures and actions to prevent and reduce the effects of cancer. In a media conference, Doctor Awang Haji Mazrul Adimin bin Haji Awang Besar, said the 'First Borneo Medical Oncology Conference', held recently was among the initiatives of the PJSC to address a complex disease such as cancer.

Meanwhile, Dato Seri Laila Jasa Doctor Babu Sukumaran, Medical Director of PJSC who is also Director of the Brunei Cancer Centre said that the commonest cancer in Brunei Darussalam are breast cancer in female and in male now it is colorectal cancer. He said early detection of cancer is the key to improve chances of survival.
