His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received in audience His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China who is on a three-day state visit to the country. The official welcoming ceremony for the President of the People's Republic of China was held at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday morning.

Along the route leading to Istana Nurul Iman, thousands of students waved miniature national flags of Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China to welcome His Excellency.

At Istana Nurul Iman, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to welcome the President of the People's Republic of China. His Excellency was accompanied by His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as the Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam from the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

Shortly after arriving, His Majesty and His Excellency Xi Jinping received the Royal Salute. The national anthems of the People's Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam were played, followed by 21 cannon fire.

His Majesty and the President of the People's Republic of China then inspected the Guard of Honour mounted by personnel of the Royal Brunei Land Force. This is His Excellency's first visit to the country being reappointed as the President of the People's Republic of China on the 17th of March 2018.

His Excellency the President of the People's Republic of China was then introduced to the members of the Royal Family, the Special Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Council, Deputy Ministers, Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Heads Of Foreign Diplomatic Missions, Members of State Councils, Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Members of His Excellency's official delegation were introduced to His Majesty. The delegation include His Excellency Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Director of General Office of the CPC Central Committee, His Excellency Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee; His Excellency Wang Yi, State Councillor and Minister of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency He Lifeng, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, His Excellency Zhong Shan, Minister of Commerce; and Her Excellency, Yang Jian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam.

His Majesty and the President of the People's Republic of China then proceeded to Cheradi Laila Kenchana for the audience ceremony. Also present were His Majesty's sons, brother and sister,

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; AND

- Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other members of the Royal Family.
