In the afternoon, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the 3rd ASEAN-Russia Summit; Signing Ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN and the Eurasian Economic Commission on Economic Cooperation; and the 20th ASEAN-Japan Summit. The Summits were held at the Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore.

Before the Summit, His Majesty joined leaders of ASEAN and the President of the Russian Federation for a group photo session.

The Summit then began with the Opening Remarks by His Excellency Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore as Chairman of ASEAN, who welcomed the President of the Russian Federation. This was followed by a statement from His Excellency Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.

His Excellency the Chairman of ASEAN then invited His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia as the Country Coordinator of ASEAN-Russia relations to convey the ASEAN common statement.

During this Summit, His Majesty welcomed President Putin to the Meeting and stated that his commitment in enhancing the partnership over the years is much appreciated.

His Majesty also valued Russia's support for multilateralism and regional architecture, especially in the face of emerging global challenges.

His Majesty then highlighted two areas where ASEAN can further work together to bring about greater benefits to the people and the region as a whole. First, His Majesty stated that it is important to strengthen the cooperation in addressing terrorism and violent extremism, as they remain serious threats for all countries. The law enforcement and intelligence agencies need to increase their coordination and exchange information, so as to effectively deal with these challenges.

Such efforts will create a more secure and stable environment and thereby generate greater confidence for further economic development and growth.

Second, His Majesty added that with the growing uncertainties nowadays, it is essential to strengthen our economic cooperation further.

His Majesty welcomed the signing of the ASEAN-Eurasian Economic Commission Memorandum of Understanding on Economic Cooperation. This would bring about greater opportunities to enhance trade and investment flows as well as complementing ASEAN's Free Trade Agreements and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, RCEP. His Majesty believed ASEAN and Russia will build a solid and enduring partnership.
